Thanks, guys for your help and concern. The tractor is about three years old but only with some 40 hours on the rebuild. It is a grey market unit and seemed to have been in pretty good shape. I think I have no one to blame but myself. The guy I bought it from had gone into business in Florida and had an inventory of 15 or so tractors and would receive a container of additional every once in awhile. Nice guy. I called him on his cell phone with a question about a year later and he tried to help but admitted he had given up the business as it involved more work (and less reward) than he expected. So much for dealer help.
I don't think it's worth fixing the 2700, especially as parts are so difficult to buy. It either goes to the junk yard or becomes interesting lawn art.
While I was mowing I was congradualting myself on saving the thousands needed to buy a new one but that problem is back.
What advice do you all have on what to buy?
I have about 12 acres of pasture (St. Augstine) to mow in Florida. The Yanmar had about 30 HP and that seemed a bit small to pull the 5 foot bush hog. Maybe I need a little larger?
I would like to buy a used machine and I do believe I should avoid grey market. Any ideas?
