Gee guys, I thought this was a restoration thread.

In all fairness. You brought up the shipping issue.. Just saying

I take Aaron's comments as a legitimate response and well stated.

Me too I agree also.

I deal with shipping on a daily basis also in a miniscule way no where near even close to what they do it adds to the cost of sales thats it.

Its a part of life and being in any business you pay someone to get products to you and send products out and then there is the returns because someone got it wrong that you eat and on and on.

"You started it!"

When did a tractor forum become 2nd grade?

There is a button specifically for soap-boxing and off-topic discussion in any forum, it's labelled "New Thread"

Bah, just close this thread.. it's pretty much done for, now.

I'm grade school because I'm upset at people being rude and taking over a thread of mine in order to argue about a completely unrelated topic, then blaming me for causing it?

What reaction should I have? Gratitude? Tell me how I should feel.

I certainly didn't begin this thread for me. I already know what I did. I made this thread to possibly help others who may come across the same issue I did, possibly years down the road. Do you think anyone will give two shillings about the shipping rate of some tractor parts place 3 years from now? No. Which is exactly why I gave it one sentence and not 7 posts. Frankly, I could care less what their reasoning is, as a reason doesn't save me money, a cheaper part in my hand does.

Maybe next you all can argue about what paint is better, seeing as I mentioned a failed paint job. Or maybe which welding method is best, seeing as I tig welded something. If you really want to avoid personal responsibility, there are a litany of topics you can argue about, based solely because I mentioned them somewhere, no matter how briefly and for what purpose, in a post. By all means, bicker away. Don't let the topic and purpose of this thread get in the way.

While you are telling me how I should feel, perhaps you can explain why it is necessary to point out exactly how people are being rude. Is this how you act in everyday life, so much you no longer notice it as unacceptable?

Listen... I hate shipping fees just as much as everyone else. I pay them on every single thing that I buy too. I gripe about them myself but I know that they are usually offset by the sales tax savings. Shipping fees are unavoidable. Places that have lower shipping prices or free shipping are usually just adding that fee to the cost of the part. We have ZERO markup in our shipping costs. We usually even eat the cost of the box which is usually $1 up to a few dollars each. Our shipping prices come directly from UPS.com based on the weight & location being shipped to. Most locations cost around $9 for a 1lb box. Some are less, some are more.

Actually, we ONLY use USPS on smaller orders. Basically... we only ship USPS on orders that we feel comfortable reshipping for a complete loss when the item does not arrive after 15 days and the customer is screaming mad (trust me... it happens ). The package almost always arrives a few days after the replacement arrives and then we get to figure out how or if we try to get the first shipment back or just cut our losses.

Just last month we had a guy BEG me to ship his water pump by postal priority to save him $2 in shipping fees- the USPS priority flat rate box for that size was $11 and UPS was $13. I finally gave in and told him I can not track it and it is not insured. He agreed. Guess what... FIVE stinkin' days later he called and was FURIOUS that he had not received his part yet. He demanded that I send another pump. That was over a $100 part- gone. We lost a customer and a water pump. With UPS it is automatically insured and I can tell you within 30 seconds where the package is.

Had another customer last week talk us into sending a small part in an envelope. I think it was a snap ring. We found out that USPS rejected it because it would not run through the machines when it was sent back to us 2 weeks later.

We sell a few things on ebay in another business and ship some stuff by postal priority. I would say 1 out of every 10 orders gets at least one "where is my order" email or call. 1 in probably 75 or so get lost or the customer says they did not get the item. If we carried that over to our parts business we would need to employ a full time person just to answer postal calls & emails.

The moral of my long, drawn out, soapbox of a story... If USPS worked the way everyone wished that it would- I would use them in a HEARTBEAT. The FACT is that they do not and they are not really all that much cheaper on most items that wont fit into their smallest flat rate box. I have done this for around 15 years now and we have tried USPS off & on over the years. We just do not have the manpower to deal with all of the angry "where is my stuff" calls and, frankly, I just do not like to make customers mad. I figure if you ordered it then you must need it so we will do our best to be sure you get it - even if that means listening to you complain a little about the shipping cost :)

I know some areas have poor UPS service but that is pretty rare and is usually caused by a careless delivery driver. UPS overall works very well and their accuracy is off the charts.

I just like for my customers to be happy and get the stuff that they need in a timely manner. If I have a choice of a customer that complains a little about a shipping cost vs a customer angry because they did not get a part that they needed- I'm going to pick the first one. :)

Hey Aaron Im not trying to beat you up, just pointing out what you told me. Sorry if it sounded like it. But i personally have not ordered things like sels adn orings which could be stuck in an envelope cause of the $14 shipping.

at a local auto store for $5! Hoye is a great place for yanmar parts, but their $13 minimum shipping fee leaves a bit to be desired.

How did I start this ? The end

You didn't. It was already a pig pile before you came in :(. No worries. I have food in my stomach, now, and although this thread is lost, hopefully other people won't see their threads go down the same rabbit hole.

On a side note, I was hoping to get some guidance as to forum etiquette, but it seems this forum has no rules at all (404 error on rules page). It's every thread for itself here in tractor world.

Domush, you've done a really good job documenting the process you've gone through in getting that YM336D up and working. There are good pictures, clear descriptions, and you have done things others haven't; or at least they haven't posted a step-by-step process. Thanks for posting this. I hope you show us the rest of your projects on your new "toy."

Please take this in the tongue-in-cheek way I intend it:

...perhaps you can explain why it is necessary to point out exactly how people are being rude. Is this how you act in everyday life, so much you no longer notice it as unacceptable?

Pot, meet kettle:

I'm grade school because I'm upset at people being rude and taking over a thread of mine in order to argue about a completely unrelated topic, then blaming me for causing it?

:D Sorry. I couldn't help it.

It can be frustrating to have your threads go in places other than strictly topical, but sometimes there really is good information in those extraneous conversations. Sometimes threads just turn into a train wreck. Here's one I somehow got wrapped up in coming off like a jerk, just trying to soothe things a little. I like the part where I get offered a lollipop...

You're right that there is little to no moderation of off-topic chit-chat, and that can be bothersome sometimes. On the positive side, though, at least it keeps the topic current, and more likely to be seen by someone who needs it!

I'm glad you're here, Domush, and hope you keep posting. I'm interested to see what implements you build to do your primary tasks.

Domush, I too, am glad your here. I have enjoyed all your posts and your project. I wasn't meaning to bash anyone. I just thought with the posts about shipping that Aaron was justified in making an explanation as to why they ship the way they do. Many of these threads get off on other subjects so I think it is something to just go along with. Again, I hope I haven't offended anyone, if so, I apologize.
