the guy may have bought replacements cause they were boogered up and didnt think it mattered? if thats the case where did he get them?

Call yanmar marine. I think this engine was used in some marine aplications per what California has said. They should have them. I would think yanmar USA could get you one as well?

We don't have them new but we have plenty of them used. People usually don't like the cost on those small parts because it ties up a mechanic for 30 minutes or more to pull the engine off the pallet rack, remove the stud, put the engine back up. It is not a common part since the studs do not need to be replaced when doing a head gasket. Only the F series use the one time bolts.

ahh makes sense about them. The more i thought i dont remember people replacing them so i was thinking maybe they were a lifetime bolt

I called Fredricks soon after I started this search. The mechanic I talked to (Danny) said he thought he had one and would get back to me. I talked to him this morning and the stud is on the way. Thanks to all that replied.

I bought this tractor with the head off and in a box. I have found all kinds of problems since starting the project including a cracked block (now repaired properly), cracked head (Now professionally rebuilt),cracked oil pan plate, bad pistons, and sleeves and rough crankshaft. If I don't find more major problems I'll come out of it OK but this is a bargain I should have left alone.

not sure i would have much confidence in a machine that is all cracked up and put back togeather!!

How did so much crack, filled to the top with water in sub zero conditions? Seriously how you you crack the oil pan (plate) on these, its like 1/4-3/8" steel plate?

My machinist says it will be fine. (guaranteed) I don't know the history, If I did I probably wouldn't have bought it. The bottom plate is now made from a 1/2 " aluminum plate. From the look of the old pistons and cylinders I think starting spray was used after it overheated. The ether got past the compromised rings and exploded in the crankcase blowing out the bottom pan (wow). I bought it with 50 hours on the meter (1050, 2050.....?) and was told it had low hours and little use. So the block is repaired and has a repaired crankshaft, new bearings, liners, pistons, rings, gaskets, seals, head redone with new valves, valve guides, seals, etc. Apparently someone started the project before I bought it and decided to replace all of the head studs (not sure why no apparent distress in that area). They used all same size studs and now I know that is not right. Fredrick's is sending a used short stud and a few other new parts and they should be here tomorrow. Hopefully I'm getting close to having a running 2TR20ax. Who knows what else I'll find.

All that work and its still a better deal than a used one? It sounds like you did not do much of that work but bought it that way? Must of been a smokin deal!

Obviously not as great of a deal as I thought when I bought it. I was told it needed a head gasket but I assumed it needed more when I made the purchase. Like I said before, If I had known how much more it needed I would have passed on the deal. When I get done I'll have a 240D with all new internal parts in the engine. With a little luck it should last a long time. I will be using it at my North Woods cabin as a light utility tractor with a loader and finish mower.
