I don't know if this subject has ever come up or not. Recently, I was shapening the blades on my ZTR with a flip up front mower deck. I noticed that the front wheels were not steering easily.

On my mower, There are upper and lower cone bearings on the spindle shaft and a lip seal on the bottom. Removing the grease cap on the top reveals the castle nut and cotter pin. So, the whole assembly is pretty much like a standard horizontally mounted wheel.

The bearings were pretty dried up with one lower one too rough to save. There is another set of these wheels on the back of the mower so I took those apart as well. Same thing but I managed to save all four bearings.

I use the pressure washer to clean this mower same as my other equipment. I never thought about getting water into the lip seals. For the cost of four lip seals, I am going to try to grease these up yearly from now on.
