I am working on my house lot and want to know which is the most useful attatchment. I have cut all the trees and have had all the stumps removed. I want something I can use to level the ground after the excavator is finished and use it to keep the driveway smooth in the future.

So, which one of these is the best choice to get? I can only get one for now, so I need to know which one will be all around the best choice.

I have a 1977 Kubota B7100, 16 HP 4x4.

Thanks,
Cleve

Well, I don't have one, but I would say that for what you are doing a box blade with scarifiers would be the most versatile. You can use it to grade your property, and the scarifiers will help to break it up and level it. Then you can raise the scarifiers and use it to grade your driveway. I don't think you want a york rake, a rear blade would work, but I don't think it would be as effective for leveling a large area of your yard.

I use a york rake with gage wheels to maintain my driveway.
I've also used it to grade my yard after removing trees and stumps.

I find that the rake does an excellent job with both tasks. My rake has the
option to add scarifiers, but I haven't found the need for them yet.

The box blade is the 'swiss army knife' of implements.. pretty much only surpassed in utility by a FEL.

If you can only get one.. get a box.

Now.. things like angle scrape blades have plenty of uses.. snow .. driveway plowing.. slope contouring. ( though -can- be done by a box.. etc.. )

rakes have more specific uses.. landscaping prep mostly..

I agree w/ Soundguy. I bought a 60" KK box and it's awesome. Works extremely well for leveling soil as well as road maintenance.

I would say the box blade. I use my boxblade more than I do the rake. Actually I very seldom ever use the rake. The only thing I really use the rake for is to clean out clumps of thorns and vines in rocky areas where you can use rotary cutter. The rake really does a great job at cleaning out vines and thorns. You could get everything pretty level with a box blade and then make a drag relatively cheap to smooth it out nice. Take some old chain link fence or bed springs and that will make a really nice final grade.

OK, sounds like the BB is the way to go for now. I will call around and see where the best deal is. A TSC just came in about an hour from me and they have a 4' BB for $398.63. I'll see if any of the local dealers can come close to that price.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

For the average user, a box blade is the handiest of the 3 mentioned. I use a rear blade just about as often as I use the box blade though. I've never owned a york rake. No real need. I do have a Leinbach 6' pulverisor that I find quite usefull. (GREAT for grading gravel driveways)

If there's a trick to getting the most out of a box blade, it's getting a good HEAVY one. (as heavy as the tractor is suited for anyway)

Rear blades? Get one with swivel/tilt angle adjustment, enough integral weight, and wide enough to cover the tractors path with blade angled.

Like so many tools, the better the quality, the more usefull they seem to make themselves.

Make sure the width of your BB is wider than your rear wheels. If only by a few inches. Reason is to cover the tracks of your wheels as you move forward. Do a search on 'BB width' and you will see further explanations from various people.

Also consider weight of BB. And overall construction quality. Like other implements, they are available in various qualities - and can easily be damaged if under-engineered to your needs.

I am a BIG fan of used implements.

Good luck.
