I know I'm going to need YR for small rock harvesting. I was thinking that running scarifiers with the rake might help loosen up surface rock. Any stories about YR/scarifier combo I should know about before purchase would be appreciated.

I guess no one runs YR with scarifiers??

I've never seen such a set up. You might use a middlebuster or a boxblade with scarifiers down and tilted forwards to loosen up the soil before using the York rake or rock bucket.

The York company shows the scarifier bar in front of tandem mount LR. Landpride has similar setup. Just wondered if anyone found them useful. Seems that they must not sell many of them.

Flintlock,I'll be looking to purchase the Landpride LR25 7 foot rake with the scarfiers in the next week or two............ if its not too pricey. A neighbor is buying my 5 foot KingKutter rake to use on his stone driveway for snow removal. I'll post some pics once I get it.

Sincerely,
Dirt

Let me know how you like it. What are you using it for??

I run a york rake equipped with scarifiers to maintain a 1/2 mile long gravel driveway. To be honest, it does a great job without the use of the scarifiers. I think I have only tried them twice and the driveway is so compacted that they really didn't help. The tines of the rake are great at popping out small grapefruit sized rocks and leveling off the gravel. I usually angle the rake to pull in the edges first and then regrade the middle.
The rake that I have also has a rear blade that swings down in front of the rake teeth, but I also have not found a reason to use it on a gravel driveway.
Good Luck!

Do you need to have gauge wheels on the rake when running with scarifiers or does the rake float behind the 3-pt attached scarifiers?? When you want to lift the ensemble, will the rake lift with the scarifiers??

Flintlock, my thoughts were that I could use it to rip up the compacted snow on the stone road that I maintain. The rake does a fairly good job by itself. I just added four suitcase weight to it to help rip up the compacted snow. I usually don't have a problem with snow compacting on the road as I keep it clear most of the time before it gets compacted. This year we have had an extended period of cold and the rake by itself does a fairly good job of popping up some stone, but as the season has stayed cold its getting to where there is more snow compacted on the road and I'm not able to get as much stone popped to the top as I'd like for vehicle traction. I thought if i could scarfier the road first and then finish with the rake it would be better and I would end up with more exposed stone. There are about 50 vehicle trips in and out per day on the road. I may take my CAT 287 tracked skidsteer and use the teeth on the bucket to rip the packed snow and see what kind of results I get with that.( it should give the same results as using the rake scarfiers) so that should give me an idea of how the rake-scarfier combo would work. I would say the once you establish your road the scarfier is going to have limited uses. And in my situation it will also have limited uses. As I stated before it depends on the extra cost of the scarfier as to whether I will purchase it with the new rake. The limited use may not justify the cost.

below pic shows the results you can get on stone road with just the rake:

I would be using it several times a year every year to help loosen up top several inches of soil and rake off rocks to plant food plots. I wondered when turning or moving from one site to another if entire combo of rake and scarifier bar lift together off the ground for transport. The connection between rake and scarifier bar is not clear to me. Is it bolted at several locations so that both move as if they were one piece or is there vertical pivoting that can occur between 2 parts??

flintlock, if you are looking at the LandPride rake it appears from the description on their site that the rake and scarfier work together if the scarfier shanks are in the down position. If you want to just use the rake you would raise the scarier shanks and repin them in the up position. I'm not sure yet if you can set it up so the rake can be in an up position to use only the scarfiers without the rake.

Yes, the rake and scarfier would lift off the ground for transport.
