Dont you have the Kennedy guy that got the stupid gun laws passed then had his own body gaurd with more firepower than most people ever see. Funny the body gaurd got arrested and convicted under his bosses laws.......
kennedy thought his laws did not apply to him.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I would say that a fella looking at TBN couldn't help but learn at least a little about most things including guns. Darn good place when everone is nice to each other. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Im sure at least one person has learned something on this thread from all the fine posts. I am looking at some gun safes myself for the first time just because I think I want one no other reason. The lock on the front door has never worked not that it would do any good but I might have a look at that too. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thanks to all.

He's also killed more people with his car than my weapons have.

"Do I actually expect my wife to have the where-with-all during a home invasion to calmly get the handgun from the nightstand safe, work the safety off, clearly identify a target as posing a deadly threat, account for any innocent bystanders and defend herself by shooting accurately in the few fractions of a second that you have to react? What I expect her to do is run!! Run to the bedroom bathroom, close the door, lock it, pick up the phone and dial 911! Now that she's barricaded in the bathroom, she has time to think clearly and she has access to a shotgun in a wallsafe mounted behind a mirror if she feels the necessity. What have I given her? I've given her a safe haven where she has time to think and evaluate the situation before she makes a mistake that makes the situation worse.
"

You really ought to make that room a safe room. A steel bathroom door with a keyed deadbolt framed in a solid wood/sheetmetal sandwich wall would really beef things up. Filled concrete block is good too of course.

You need a VERY sturdy frame to withstand a 200# throwing his weight at it @ running speed.

I'm joining this late but some comments:
* Someone said "I don't carry unless I need to" - I think none of us can predict when the need will arise - food for thought. I'm getting a .40 for CCW purposes and it will be small enough that I'll pretty much carry it as much as I wear underwear.

* Consider knives. An un-trained shooter will easily be stabbed by a trained knife wielder - or even someone that has practiced their attack plan a few times. Anyone that looks unconcerned that you have a gun and they have a knife is a very serious threat. Don't wait - shoot them. This works vice versa of course. If you are every caught with just a knife and it is do or die - I intend to take my chances with the stabbing. I don't expect mercy from a bad man with a gun - you are a witness after all. I *ALWAYS* carry a Benchmade knife that snaps open/closed with the slightest of wrist action.

* Not sure wifey can handle the firearms? Hide a machette in the safe room. Stay on very good terms with your wife!

* Don't go hunting intruders. Let them know you are armed, have called the police, and you don't want to hurt them. Suggest they leave. Sound confident - don't plead.

* Safes are good for more than guns - I bought a Liberty safe (lincoln model) for the rifles and hand-gun AND for irreplaceable photos/documents. It has a 75 minute fire rating that is supposedly very under-rated. You can buy safe doors for mounting as a door to a DIY vault if you have a lot of that sort of thing.

* Don't flee the scene of a shooting - it equals guilt. Don't mess with evidence either or try to fake it - also guilt. You stand a much better chance of claiming self-defense.

* Don't threaten an attacker's life. Threaten his entire family and friends. Words are wonderful weapons, choose the approach on the situation. Lie. Lie well. I was held at knife point by a gang and it worked for me. I let them save face, gave them respect, did NOT back down however and explained how dire their situation would be if I was to come to harm - totally senseless and we will be on our way now. It wasn't the toughest gang on the planet, but I did have a rib-tickler blade about 18-24" from my chest, and a couple others like it were out as well. I may have been nuts or very brave - probably both. Give them a win scenario if they leave but a lose-lose-lose if they don't.

* always carry spare ammo

* hollow points and the sort are better than FMJ - you don't realy need or want bullets ricochetting around your house/going through your house - do you? FMJs are for practice only IMHO

* dont get killed - who will protect your family THEN?

You are welcome to call and argue with "glasser" about that. I think I will take the word of the companies who developed and researched these over yours. No offense meant.. You really think that for every action there is an equal reaction? To bad Newton did not think of that!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

First you say every gun must be locked in a safe! Then someone with a cooler collection then you have shows his guns on a wall and poof your not an advocate of locking up every gun!!! Wew that was hard to say!! I guess I preferred when I just kind of disagreed with ya.
I do think most guns should be locked away in a safe. Esp with children. When I was a kid I shot a .22 auto into the parents mattress. My brother was sitting next to me and I could have shot him instead of the mattress. Thank goodness I knew better than to point a gun at someone.. We don't ever have any children at our house. If we have a party I put the guns away. I feel better with a loaded gun and louieville slugger near the bed.. I am ok with it. My house has an alarm system... I only have two guns. The colt .357 and a 20 ga shotgun .44 mag rifle combo survival gun. I don't feel I need a gun safe at this time.. I may get one some time. I have a fire safe that I put the pistol in when I go on vac....

Absolutely!!! It is the law of physics. The energy at impact, by definition cannot be higher than the energy given at the time the projectile is shot.

Glaser safety slugs transer nearly 100% of the energy to the impact location. I say nearly because there is some loss from air resistance. A bullet that goes right through a person still has energy left over and continues to travel. That near 100% energy transfer to the shootee is why glaser safety slugs are so damaging to soft tissue.

There is a guy who travels around debunking that old myth of a slug from high powered handguns throwing people backward. He does a demonstration using a .44 magnum. He holds the gun toward his chest (with a sears catalog in between his chest and a bullet proof vest) and shoots. Right before he shoots he makes sure and asks the audience... "Now if your theory is true, then I should go flying backwards when I shoot myself." He shoots and goes nowhere. He then explains that the impact felt at his chest is no more/no less than the recoil felt at his hands.

Keep in mind.... APPARENT (felt) forces are quite different depending on fast or slow an object accelerates or decelerates even though the total energy is the same. Drop a dish from a height of 3 feet onto concrete and it will break. Drop a dish from the same height onto a 1" thick piece of padding, and it may survive the fall. The 1" of controlled deceleration makes a HUGE difference. The same is true of guns. A bullet stopping nearly all at once (as with a glaser safety slug) transfers lots of energy quickly... as opposed to the shooter feeling the same slug accelerate (relatively slowly) over the length of a 4", 5" or 6" barrell.

They also do ballistic comparisons. They show unequivocally that a .45 auto is the most lethal caliber to human flesh (using similar bullet types, for example using glaser safety slugs in all calibers tested or black talons in all calibers tested) in a short range shot with no obstacles. It is the heaviest round at the slowest speed, so transfers the most energy quickly to soft tissue. Other calibers shoot at much higher velocities and either penetrate deeper or go all the way through. .45 was also the best at penetrating a sloped windshield, due to slower heavier rounds tending to ricochet less. It was near the worst at penetration tests though, such as shooting through walls or car doors.

First you say you'll get sued if you shoot an intruder then you say it's the meat wagon for you and you can prove attempted harm etc... I guess I would not be smart enough to do that? Some states have a "make my day law" most are reasonable force. Most Juries consider shooting a burglar inside your home reasonable.
If you fired 2 glasser and still had a fight going you may need to shoot through a wall etc.. I don't think I am flawed.....

Did Newton think of that too? Gee Wally thats' real neat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Glaser's may not penetrate to vital organs.
I have seen people swallow swords and eat fire but a sword can chop your fool head off and fire burns....Most folks hit square with a .357 glasser are going down and are not getting up for awhile!!!!

I think you missed something. On one of his next posts, he shows the security door used to secure his gun collection. I recently saw a vault door that looked just like a raised panel interior door. I thought it was pretty cool, you could barely tell the difference.
