Gee, and I was real disappointed... my 2310's blower had some real issues with this last snow. We got about 4" of grainy, sugar-like snow, then about an inch of rain on top of that, to make a horrible, soupy mess. Reduced the throw from 60+ feet to only about 35-40 feet.....:D:D:D

Escavader-- welcome to the club- these things are an amazing improvement over a walk-behind, aren't they?

Dmacneil-- if you get much snow, you really ought to have a SCUT-mounted blower. I'm only sorry I waited so long.

Gotta ask.. what does SCUT stand for?

I've got to figure out whether to go with a rear or front mount (other than having to justify spending the $$$ for one at all). I know a front mount will be so much easier, but the area I need to clear is big, and even a BX mounted blower won't moved the snow where it needs to go in one pass. So I'd like to keep the FEL on in case the blown snow becomes too heavy for the blower - also I do need to move piles of snow in the spring. When the snow starts to melt I get run-off in the basement. Most of this should be fixed now as this past summer we installed indoor weeping tile, but I'd rather be safe than sorry and move the snow piles. So I'm thinking a rear mount.

We have more accumulated snow so far this year than we've had in some previous complete seasons. I have 2 parallel driveways, one paved, one gravel. We don't we the gravel one much at all. The gravel driveway is 1/3 full with a 4'-5' high, 30 foot long pile of snow. That is about half of the snow that is piled. I'm so glad I got the BX this year as most of the snow has been a wet slushy mess. To stay on topic... sure which I had a blower for the BX... but the FEL has been fun too!

dmacneil,
Sub Compact Utility Tractor.
The snow will not get too heavy for the blower. The blower will always move it better than a loader. It sounds like it would be a bit of work to get rid of what is already piled but if you take smaller slices it can be done.
That being said I have a rear blower and use my FEL to deal with the plow bank. The FEL is so handy for so many things I don't want to remove it.

I plow snow and move the piles with these 2.

As someone else said the snow never gets too heavy for a blower. The wetter and heavier (or deeper) the snow, the smaller the width of each cut, and the slower you drive the tractor. Also you might consider blowing several times during a big snow event.

I've read, and even seen this in a video of a blower on a BX. That isn't the case with my White. I take good care of my toys and I've broken belts on both wet and heavy snow and big dumps of snow. I know that won't be the case with the BX.

A great strategy, although I don't always have the luxury of doing multiple passes unfortunately.. nasty thing - 'work' gets in the way of life. :p

I think come next fall I'll be looking to get a deal on a blower for the BX. They seem to have a Kubota implement sale ever fall around here - at least according to my dealer.

DMACNEIL,
My rear puma doesnt have a belt its chain drive no belt to slip.In fact i dont think most do have belts until you get to the laawn tractor sized blower.
Alot of us do want our loaders for one reason or another. You need to see if you can sit comfortably side saddle on your seatstill run the floor petal with your foot and steer with one hand -without cranking your neck around. If you cant just sit and "look to your side" you probably want to spend extra and get a front blower. It all depends on the individual and the tractor design.
This was an old trick the guys at work taught me while hauling two large stacks of lumber about 1/2 mile going backwards with a large all terrian forklift. If you cranked your neck and didnt drive sidesaddle youd be in the chiropracter the next day:)Im able to sit facing the right door ,steer with the left hand ,i can comfortably still run the treddal pedal with either foot ,or run it with the right and differential lock with left.Iknow it sounds like im playing twister but im not.:D:D:D
That being said blowers are not cheap, rears are cheaper than fronts, but because of steel prices even those are through the roof.

Well, we got a couple three inches here today. Took out the blower to try it out, since its my first winter with the 3030. Not really enough snow to blow, but i had to go play anyway. I never realized the hardships of winter in a cab tractor............... just wearing jeans and a sweatshirt really had me sweating. Next time i'll smarten up and just wear a T shirt ! My boots were a little clumsy on the pedals, and since they never even got the slightest bit wet, next time perhaps a light hiking shoe will be more appropriate. And........ the worst part: fumbling through the radio stations while operating to find just the right "snowblowing music" ! Folks.... Celine Dion or Barry Manilow are no good for snowblowing, i suggest maybe..... AC/DC. The blower seems to really throw the white stuff with AC/DC cranking;).

So-- I got the same snow Ductape did, though we had 6+" up here. Had the blower out early this AM, and then again around 2PM, as we'd had another 3" or so. This time, my wife was home so I actually have some pics! Let's not rub it in about the "no cab" deal, OK? (I'm tough, right? :D) Don't EVEN mention a radio!:D:D

I hope those who haven't made up their minds whether to get a blower or not, as well as those whose blowers don't seem to throw very far see the photos; that little 2310 is pretty amazing. The shot next to the house is tearing up a lot of icy chunks/buildup from falling off the roof that was about 20" deep--no sweat.
