Pics taken Saturday morning. A common misconception is that the "South" is all beach partying, water-skiing, sun and fun. IT is mostly, but every now and then, we get the leftovers from the North... without the snow of course!

First pic of the electronic unit has it's sensor mounted on wall of house, picking up radiant heat. The second pic is mounted on the back deck away from the house about 15 feet. 18.4 deg F and 12 deg F respectively.

We were on the western edge of that cold air mass so we were only seeing 17*F at our location. It did set a record low, 21*F, at the airport a few miles south and west of our place. That is cold enough, thank you, for this southern boy.

It's not too bad today, but a few days ago we broke the record for that day. It was 17 degrees out and the record was 19 degrees back in 1933. The month of Janurary also set a record for being the coldest on record by 3 degrees in our area.

Yesterday it was in the 50's and by the middle of the week, we should hit 70 degrees!!!!!!

Wow, never really thought of the South as "all beach partying, water-skiing, sun and fun." I always associated it with Cajun food, swamps, people with integrity. Do folks there swim in the Gulf?

At 18 degrees it's not cold. When it hit 18 here a few days ago it was considered as a break in the cold. Now 12 degrees is starting to get chilly.

We've had an even colder winter in the Denton area, but the forecast for yesterday was a high of 68 and they said it got to 73. However, my thermometer only showed 67. But yesterday I put the battery back in the little Toro ZTR, fired it up to make sure it still ran OK (I had put a new spark plug in it, but hadn't run it since, and I had stored the battery in the shop), greased the zerks, and aired up all the tires. I'll have to start mowing within a week or two anyway.

Then I charged up both batteries in the boat. It's getting close to time to go fishing again.:)

I hear ya. We aren't used to or set up for cold, cold weather (defined as below 32F down here). We can handle an overnight dip below, but dadgummit, don't go into the teens, much less the low teens!

As for your type of cold weather, I know all about it. I spent a few days in Thule, Greenland and did a 6 month deployment to Keflavik, Iceland once with visits to Bodo, Norway. You want to talk cold... I guess after -20 and wind chill...it really doesn't matter. Kind of like you can't tell the diff between 212F and 400F if you bump into the stove door...

We have all that too. We swim in the Gulf of Mexico. It's beautiful. I've heard if you are close to where the Mississippi dumps, it's not pretty at all, muddy at best, although I haven't seen it to know for a fact. Gulf of Mexico beaches in FL are beautiful, sugary white sand and crystal clear warm water (if no 'Cane is coming).

Sounds like you need a roadtrip.:D
