I recall this same discussion several years ago; one of the group had been in the service in Alaska. He said it got so cold where he was, that antifreeze cans left outdoors would freeze up and burst. If there was a medal for the biggest BSer, he would have gotten it.

I don't know TwoLane - when we lived in Ak there were two weather reporting sites in Fairbanks. The airport and Elision AFB. Many was the time when Elision would report temps in the -50's. I don't think a jug of premix could withstand those temps. On the average most premix is good down to around -35F. Below that it starts to slush up and freeze solid pretty fast. There is no data on a jug of full strength - its never used that way.

Pure ethylene glycol freezes at about 8 degrees F. With the other additives that are in "antifreeze" it will freeze somewhere from about 0 F to -10F. Mixed properly with water the freezing point will go down to almost -49F I totally believe cans of antifreeze being frozen solid. NO BS.

Hard on those underneath too, we get the same thing but on extremely hot days, almighty crack and off comes a big limb from up high, the koalas do not enjoy the ride down either.
