You Know You Are Old When

I could never stand coffee, probably haven't drank an entire cup in my whole life. When I worked on construction in the 70s, sometimes people would bring us coffee at break time in the cold months, and I just had to thank them, but politely decline it. I would, however, take an ice cold Coke or Pepsi.
First soda at 17 traveling to see distant relatives... Beer was the beverage if choice or mineral water... I saw Coke and grabbed it...

Growing up it was water or milk...

Mom never had sweets around unless event like birthday.

Dad did enjoy ice cream and found he could buy a Thrifty Party pack 4 gallon ice cream very reasonable and he would bring one home for the summer...

It was the same one they used to dispense the nickel scoops from.

The last time I bought coffee it was so expensive that I'm thinking about dumping it in Boston Harbor and drinking tea.
Everyone would hate me.... no coffee no nice. Even the dogs avoid me until after the second cup.
I stopped drinking coffee decades ago and gradually grew to not even notice it. Sometimes a medium decaf is nice but I don't miss it. I suspect there is some sort of addictive nature to it that is yet undiscovered by the trial lawyers. I feel noticeably better and saved a barrel of $$ along the way. Do the math on that.

Coffee is cheaper than Beer and I wasted plenty of $$$ on that... I don't miss the beer.

That's willpower!!!

I'm down to 3-4 cookies and 4 pieces of dark chocolate most days.

But once in a while, I break into the Little Debbies. 😛
Little Debbies are the WORST!
Made my teeth hurt just trying them.

I've never been skinny, but I used to have a fairly high metabolism. More than once I've been told by someone that if they ate as much as I did they'd weigh 400 lb. Unfortunately, as I've gotten older the metabolism has slowed, but not the appetite. :ROFLMAO:

I'm down to 2 oil change intervals a year, but that's a bit deceiving...modern vehicles can go longer between changes.
Don't feel lonely,
I'm under 6 foot and have been over 200 pounds since before I graduated HS. Marine boot camp I actually went up too 220. When I was young I was constantly doing physical labor. Stayed at 220 to 230 in the Marines, crept up to 240 till I hit my upper 50's then it started creeping up and moving down. So as you the metabolism has slowed down as well as the hard work but not the appetite and love of food. :)

I'm still doing two or three oil changes a year on the pickup even though it's under 12,000 miles a year.

I like a cup or two in the morning but over the last decade have cut back and may have to give it up completely, as it keeps me awake at night. Some people can drink it all day, have a cup at night then go to bed and sleep like a baby but not me.
If I drink too much or have a cup after 10:00 AM or so won't sleep that night. I'm down to one (20 oz) cup, any more than that and I regret it. A few months ago I thought about having another and couldn't sleep that night. Go figure.

Even more disappointing though is that nobody even recognized the joke I tried to make. That's typical though. When I make a joke people take me seriously. When I'm serious, they think I'm joking.
That must be a sign that I'm getting old.

I guess everyone is different, but I suspect for most, age has something to do with it.

I used to drink coffee all day and night in my 20's, and even my own mother (heavy coffee drinker) would ask me how I could sleep after an after-dinner coffee. I could literally have coffee right before bed, and be nearly unaffected.

As I reached my late-30's or early-40's, that began to change. I remember being really surprised the first time an evening coffee kept me from getting to sleep that night, thinking "well sh*t, this is new."

Now, I try to avoid all caffeinated coffees after 3pm, and have a hard/fast rule at 5pm. If I want an after-dinner coffee these days, which is common here, it has to be decaf. Thankfully, many roasters are making very good decaf beans, these days.

I'm down to one 8oz. cup. But there was a time when, if I couldn't sleep, I would get up and re-heat a large cup of leftover coffee. It would put me to sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
