You Know You Are Old When

These are the stories I heard.
The first property my parents had didn't come with a tractor.
He pulled the disc to work up the ground with his pickup.
He'd have to stop often to let it cool off.
It wasn't geared for that kind of work and would overheat pretty quick.
His first tractor was a John Deere on steel wheels.
You started it spinning the large flywheel on the side and switched to kerosine.
Once she started running good you turned her over to diesel.
Just a drawbar, with your a-s hanging out over the implement.
You better not fall off.
Now the modern tractors rival some of the crap out of NASA.

My Dad had a Ford Model A with the back half of the cab cut off and used it as a sweep rake for loose hay. My Grampa had

some kind of a old truck with out a cab that he used for something, I was too young at the time. A guy that lives a few miles

from me has an old Model A with out a cab that he runs around with and another Model A, which is his only car and uses it for

all his travels.

My first car IS 71 years old. A 1954 Willys CJ3B Jeep. It was 21 yo when I got it from my grandfather at age 15 in 1975.

I expect that you may have remembered or heard incorrectly.
The old dual fueled tractors started on "gas" then when warmed up would get switched to what was called distillate a light kerosene or heavy "gas"..

The first car I owned was a '56 plymouth 2 door sedan. It would be 68 years old now. The first new car i bought was a '63 Pontiac Tempest with the 326 V8.

My first car was a 1939 Cadillac Lasalle. Older than me, but it was dad's "fun" car before us kids came along, and put into long-term dry storage when we did.

I had a hardtop Tempest and a convertible Lemans both with the slant 4.

My grandfather sold his first car to somebody who cut it down for a tractor, which was common practice 90 years ago. It made him sick, as he took good care of it.
He never sold another car.

Very common with Fords both with kits and on the fly..

I was given one and after sitting 40 years in a field got it running… it had a sickle bar mower and one Model A Transmission mounted directly behind another for gear reduction…
