You Know You Are Old When

Always a weird feeling when you outlive your father. I’m 3 years past, at this point. Does that mean the clock is ticking?
Depends on how old you are. My father outlived his by 3 years, hopefully I'll continue the trend.
It's gotta be a weird feeling to outlive your kids though.

My laptop updated last week. It took about 10 minutes to boot up, when I juat had to quickly look at something.
About the only time I use a laptop is at a worksite, some of which are remote locations with rather slow internet (not a big deal, since it's only used to check equipment status). Never seems to fail, something on it (be it OS or antivirus) automatically starts an update, over a 10 mb connection when I'm trying to get something done.

Ma and Pa passed almost to the day 6 months apart.
It will be 21 years in Jan. and Aug. 2026.
I've gotten over some things and others I still miss.
For a while I used to come home ready to update them on local occurrences and gossip only to realize they weren't there to hear aboot it.
I used to dread hearing my father's war stories. I had heard them so many times before. When I was a kid he used to corner my friends and talk their ears off about it. Now I'd love to hear them one more time.
Ma was a great cook and they say smell is a major memory trigger.
Just to smell a hot meal in the yard while coming in for lunch after a long morning in the field. Mmmmm doggies!
And so many other memories

We've had that in our family, two generations in a row. In fact, my great grandmother outlived my father, so she got to see her grandson pass.

I watched all the men in 4 generations of my family drop dead within a 15 year window, from my great-grandfather to my siblings. I'm literally "the last man standing". 😲

Long may you stand!

My father passed just over ten years ago.
That does not seem weird or odd to me at all.

Now my mother, at age 96, and bright as a candle, may very well outlive ME.

That would be weird, but.. then, I will be dead. ;-)

Of course not, unless he was 9 years old or less, when you were born!

You have me confused by your statement.
I said it feels weird when you find yourself older than your father was at his death. You said yours died 10 years ago, and it didn't feel weird. But unless he was 9 or under at the time of your birth, you are not older than your father was at his time of death.

Sorry for the morbid humor. :p
