You Know You Are Old When

I believe you MUST register for Social Security after you turn 65 even if you decline coverage. There are penalties and stuff if you just ignore.
I hope not. I looked into that last fall and didn't think it was the case. I think I'll look again though...

You have to sign up for Medicare at 65 or there will be penalties for the rest of your life.

Not necessarily; from the SSA website...

You (or your spouse) are:

Still working at a job that has 20 or more employees
Have health insurance from that job..

You can wait until you (or your spouse) stop working (or lose your health insurance, if that happens first) to sign up for Part B (Medical Insurance), and you won’t pay a late enrollment penalty.
If you don’t have to pay a premium for Part A (Hospital Insurance), you can choose to sign up when you turn 65 (or anytime later). Do I qualify?
Your job-based insurance pays first, and Medicare pays second

One more thing to do…

My understanding is as long as my employer insurance continues nothing to do…

I don’t plan on social security at 65.

One thing I wouldn’t do is take an Advantage Plan…

Seen too many patients have issues when needing surgical procedures… limited participating doctors is one.

If you continue to work past 65 with health insurance is there any reason to check in as it were?
No. If you still have health insurance you can delay signing up for Medicare. I was over 70 when I finally retired, had full company health insurance, so I didn't sign up for Medicare until a few months before I finally retired.

It is a good idea to keep checking your Social Security account to make sure there are no screwups.

I don’t know when they were naturalized, buy “one nation under god” was not added until 1954

My dad and much of his family came over in 1907 or 8. Several of my uncles have similar but different last names and my father does also.
Yep. That wasn't added until 54.

A few other things a lot of people don't know about the pledge...

Original from 1892:

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and
to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation indivisible, with Liberty
and Justice for all.

The words “my flag” were replaced by “the flag of the United States” in 1923, because
some foreign-born people might have in mind the flag of the country of their birth,
instead of the U.S. flag. A year later, “of America” was added after “United States.”

The last change in language came on Flag Day 1954,
when Congress passed a law which added the words “under God” after “one nation.”

Originally, the pledge was said with the hand in the so-called “Bellamy Salute,”

(if you don't know what that is, think **** Germans and Italian fascists... they adopted it in the 20s and 30s,)

Bellamy salute - Wikipedia

All of the above is from the VA.

The area in which I live was settled by the Mennonites in 1727 - 1729, and it seems no two have the same last name, thanks to the differing interpretations of various immigration clerks and poor literacy of the immigrants. The same family has at least ten different spellings, among the various siblings and cousins:

Halteman
Haldeman
Halterman
Hallman
Hollman
... then duplicate each of those five with "mann" instead of "man".

Then there's Landis vs. Landes, Kolb vs. Kulp... and don't even get me started on the Zimmermans and Zieglers.

There are 3 spellings of our family's last name here in North America. Anyone that spells it like I do are pretty closely related. The 2nd spelling are all 1st or 2nd cousins. The 3rd way are more recent to this continent from the old country.
