You Know You Are Old When

I recently had my first Medicare Wellness visit. The Dr. asked me to remember 3 colors and I told them what they were. After our visit, the Dr. got the paper that he wrote them down on and asked me what they were. I rattled them off.
I thought about asking the Dr. if he was having short term memory issues but decided against it.
When I've been it's 3 words, and draw 11:10 on a clock. It was the same 3 words for several years in a row, last visit they changed them.

At least in the areas I lived in the North East back in that time, didn't seem to be a lot of Nations banks in the North East or I just missed them.
I've lived in New England most of my life, and don't ever recall seeing one, or at least not under that name.

I tried to fill up my truck at Costco a while back. The pump would not read my member card-it was my original card and admittedly in pretty rough shape
I ran into something similar a couple years ago when trying to renew my driver's license. My state is switching to real ID DLs, and you need to produce a birth certificate and social security card. I presented the SS card I was issued in, probably 1964 when I was a teenager. The clerk gave me a blank look and said in effect, "what's this?, that's not an official SS card". Well, it was the only one I ever got, and no one has EVER had a problem with it before.
Ended up having to go to the SS office and get a replacement card. Clerk was vague about why the DMV wouldn't accept it.

I was forced to sign the Signature line on my SS Card as a young child, before I even properly knew cursive writing, in order to get a passport. It's still the only SS Card I've ever known, and I laugh every time I look at the signature. I think I even spelled my name wrong. :ROFLMAO:

Whereas a driver's license is legitimately a hard thing to replicate, given the holographic images and multi-step laminations most contain, I always wondered how a birth cert or a SS Card was proof of anything. Most are just a sheet of paper or card stock, that you could easily just make up and print on your own. Almost silly that these are the documents required ot obtain a "real ID" driver's license.

I have a passport and Global Pass with PreCheck TTN, which you'd think would overrule all other forms of identification, as you have to do a live interview with Homeland Security to get the Global Pass TTN. But because my name is listed slightly differently on my passport and TTN doc's, versus my driver's license, it still causes me trouble on occasion.

In getting a real ID for my CCW permit I was forced to pay a small Illinois county a fee for my birth certificate. Now my wife is doing the same thing in CA. Problem somebody misspelled her name on the certificate, crossed it out, fixed it, and filed it ... now 65 yrs later it's a problem

Mom never had a middle name and when she went to get her California drivers license the DMV said you need a middle name and asked for her maiden name initial and put this in her drivers license…

For 65 years she would receive two jury notices, etc because her voter has no middle initial and her drivers license has the middle initial DVM assigned.

Our friend who passed away at 101 had shared a birth certificate with his twin sister … they were born on a rural ranch in California and when the doctor arrived he had only one birth certificate so he put both on the same.

We had a floor safe stolen back in 1975 when I was in HS and I have always thought that my birth certificate was in it.
Last year my mother moved into assisted living and we've been cleaning out the house.
Last week my sister found a folder with my "baby things" including my original birth certificate.
I have no clue where my Social Security card is, but am quite sure that it says "Not for identification purposes."

Going to help a older couple at a former church we attended to help cleaning up their home that they will be putting on the market.

Fill up the 5 gallon gas can (pressure washer) and the 1 gallon I put fuel mix in for the weedwacker.

I hate my 5 gallon gas can because it's one of those newer "air tight" ones you can't kill yourself with, and honestly, I still can't figure the dang thing out to pour it, so I just take the "cap" off and fill.

Wouldn't you know it, my 20 year old 1 gallon plastic tank has a leak. So, I run up the road to my local hardware store (where I bought my Ferris mower at) to go and pick one up.

THIS is what I now get for a 1 gallon gas tank...

I read the instructions, still can't figure it out.

Ask the wife if she can figure it out, nope. She's smarter than me by the way LOL.

We get to the house we are going to help out, low and behold, we're the youngest couple there. Hey, I can always just twist the "cap" off like I do my 5 gallon tank, but I thought I'd ask the people there.

First 3 people, nope. So I'm there with another older woman and we're just trying anything to see what works.

Found the trick and IMO it's a stupid design. You have to hold the can in one hand, and the press down HARD with your left palm on the green "switch" and that will allow the gas to flow.
The thing is, you need to push hard, and it seems stupid that you have to use both hands to make it operate.

Everyone talks about technology and how complicated things are getting. It's getting pretty bad when you need instructions for a simple gas tank.

Even though I know how to operate the 1 gallon tank now, I'm still just going to operate it just like the 5 gallon tank.

One thing I do like is the internal strainer in the gas tank. That said, My older "simple" 5 gallon tanks I'm just going to rinse out, dry and keep reusing LOL

Gotta love California. My wife has no middle name, and she's never had any sort of problem like that.
