You Know You Are Old When

I would just remove the top and pour the gas in, maybe half would spill on the ground. The new spout designs are so stupid. I expect most people do this because they can't figure them out. Very eco friendly.

The ones that u have to push WAY TO HARD to get to work, I just took them apart and snipped a couple of coils off.. problem solved.

I dig out a funnel, then slop a bit of gas into to rinse it clean, dump that gas, then try not to spill much till the little tank over fills.

Till I was 16 and had to have things in my own name, I relied on my Mom to tell me things... She was wrong about every thing but my Birthday. :) It was good in a way to find out that I had three social security numbers, all under slightly different names....

Going to help a older couple at a former church we attended to help cleaning up their home that they will be putting on the market.

Fill up the 5 gallon gas can (pressure washer) and the 1 gallon I put fuel mix in for the weedwacker.

I hate my 5 gallon gas can because it's one of those newer "air tight" ones you can't kill yourself with, and honestly, I still can't figure the dang thing out to pour it, so I just take the "cap" off and fill.

Wouldn't you know it, my 20 year old 1 gallon plastic tank has a leak. So, I run up the road to my local hardware store (where I bought my Ferris mower at) to go and pick one up.

THIS is what I now get for a 1 gallon gas tank...

I read the instructions, still can't figure it out.

Ask the wife if she can figure it out, nope. She's smarter than me by the way LOL.

We get to the house we are going to help out, low and behold, we're the youngest couple there. Hey, I can always just twist the "cap" off like I do my 5 gallon tank, but I thought I'd ask the people there.

First 3 people, nope. So I'm there with another older woman and we're just trying anything to see what works.

Found the trick and IMO it's a stupid design. You have to hold the can in one hand, and the press down HARD with your left palm on the green "switch" and that will allow the gas to flow.
The thing is, you need to push hard, and it seems stupid that you have to use both hands to make it operate.

Everyone talks about technology and how complicated things are getting. It's getting pretty bad when you need instructions for a simple gas tank.

Even though I know how to operate the 1 gallon tank now, I'm still just going to operate it just like the 5 gallon tank.

One thing I do like is the internal strainer in the gas tank. That said, My older "simple" 5 gallon tanks I'm just going to rinse out, dry and keep reusing LOL
That internal strainer is actually a flash arrester, got a new 5 gallon diesel can from TSC a few years ago. The flash arrester made it almost impossible to fill without spilling diesel fuel. Had to work at prying that out, it was made to be hard to remove. After adding a vent it works great both for filling and emptying.

I guess they are there to protect people who don't know not to start fires with gasoline; but wonder how many people get flash backs from pouring diesel.
I usually fill my tractor by putting the can in my bucket and using a siphon hose
I guess that wouldn't work with the new cans.

YKYAOW:
One friend has dementia, one is out of the hospital and in rehab for untreated diabetes(he refused to see a doctor until it was almost too late), one is recovering from a blood clot in his leg, one is recovering from a fall in the bathroom, one is obese with bad back problems, two more have passed away in the last year, and just one is still reasonably healthy.
I'm just glad I wake up every morning and everything still works.

Edit: Friend in rehab developed sepsis and is back in the hospital in the ICU.
