You know you are old when your child starts getting trade magazines delivered to your address. Kid hasn't lived here for 10 years, but has been in the industry since high school.

One of the other kids parents were even cheaper than mine. He had to carefully fold up the sandwich wrap and bag to be used again the next day. He only got new wrapping and bag when the old one fell apart.
You just reminded me of the way my grandmother used to rinse out, dry, and reuse ziplock baggies. She was a teen and young adult, thru the depression. Even though they could afford to throw away and replace ziplock baggies, she just couldn't bring herself to waste anything.

Mother in-law just turned 85. We finally talked her out of using handkerchiefs and keeping a snotty rag in her pocket that she handles 30-40 times a day and start using Kleenex.

So she now keeps a snotty Kleenex in her pocket and uses it all day. We asked her to just throw it out after each use. We showed her the jumbo pack of 12 boxes of tissues that we get from Costco. They come out to 1 cent per tissue. Please, mom. Throw it out.

But, she's from the school of waste not, want not. It's a great mindset, and the reason she's financially secure. We're from the same school. However, there comes a point where you CAN afford to have healthier habits.

You know you're old when your first lunch box was an old Karo syrup can that your Dad personalized by punching a star in the lid with a hammer and nail.

You know you're old when the first school lunch room smelled like 100 years of apples, fried egg and pork chop sandwiches; old bananas and bologna.
