You Know You Are Old When

What's even worse for a parent is when a child dies.

So I've heard. Fortunately we didn't have any of that. Just 2 parents who lived about 100 yrs and died just weeks apart.

"Trousers" is simply British for pants, any type. But "slacks" are specifically what we'd call modern dress pants, usually wool.

I believe the name "slacks" came from comparison to the older (18th century) style of breeches and stockings, which were tighter and more fitted at the time, versus "slacks" which were looser long wool pants.

What about clam diggers?
Girls wear them today but they call them half pants ?
Heck some of the shorts I see boys wearing appear to measure half pants !

Dungarees are denim. Britches are the short pants that end just below the knee, worn with high stockings... like 18th century clam diggers.

I just wear jeans and chinos, but I guess I had picked up more voculabulary on the history of men's attire from historically-set movies, than I had realized.

Interesting in that dungaree is a fabric older than denim. Dungarees became universal for clothing made out of that fabric. Modern dungarees are made from denim.

YKYO when your parents die.

When I was in my early 40s I commented to my parents how it seemed quite a few of my friends had lost a parent. Father responded with something to the effect of "how do you think we feel, seeing our friends dropping off". I'm now about the same age he was when he made that comment.
Guess that translates to YKYO when your friends/contemporaries are dying from "old people" ailments.
