You Know You Are Old When

Seriously, my father in-law said he felt bad that he only had his favorite beer in the garage fridge, and he'd ask my wife and me what we liked to drink. He'd buy a 12 pack of each. Wife and I would have 1 or 2 on our next visit. We'd go back a week later and they were gone. What the heck???

"I had to drink it before it went gunky."

🙃:ROFLMAO:
I better get busy. There is still 3 cans of beer left in the fridge that I bought in January.

When I was young, single and lived by myself, I only stocked Yuengling black and tan in the fridge. It was a dark beer, sort of like a Guinness.

One time a buddy asked me why I kept that odd ball beer in the fridge all the time.

Answer was simple, most people only wanted one if they wanted one at all, so I was never getting drained out beer in the fridge :ROFLMAO:

I keep a couple of different brands in the fridge for guests. This thread reminded me it's time to give them away to someone and buy some fresh. I have five bottles of each that I've had for a year and a half. I always warn them how old they are and whoever I've given them to has always said they were fine. I've never had to resort to give away the peach cider.

My first home was deep in the hood and built 1910 on a 25x100 lot and scheduled for condemnation.

A neighbor saw me and said boy whats you doing here?

I said I bought the place and nice to meet you.

He asked if I knew where I was…

Best single investment I made and before my 22 birthday.

I had plenty of bumps on the road along the way… came home and someone had stolen my old copper tank gas water heater leaving the water lines to drip on the floor… another time 18 sheets of drywall taken and then there was the guy prying out my new aluminum frame window in the back to sell for scrap… good times for sure.

The drywall was found at a storefront church a block away…

At the peak that house appreciated 45 times over what I paid for it.

Only two renters since I moved…

Never had a mortgage and sold my car to raise the money to buy it… factory stock 1968 Z28 Camaro with 27,000 miles to a guy that flew out to buy it.

Uh oh... here comes the neighborhood. :D
Since I bought the demographics have totally changed…

It was all African American in the 80’s and now all Spanish speaking…

The demographics city wide have changed much over the years.

That’s how I know I’m old…

Yeah, that was the basis of my joke, playing on Archie Bunker’s “there goes the neighborhood”, from the episode when he found out the Jeffersons were moving in. But I can’t take credit for coming up with it, I think I heard Chris Rock use that line in a routine 30 years ago.

In eastern Pennsylvania in the early 1900's, the neighborhood was going to pot because of all the Lithuanians and Russians from Eastern Europe.

Ironically enough, even back then in the early 1900's, afro Americans were still at the bottom of the list per my dad (born in 1932).

Both sets of my parents were called "Honky's" as a derogative back then, no different than what people use to call black people. Funny enough, the term "Honky" has changed over the years, but not the derogative term for black people. Go figure...
