I don't want to turn this into pro or anit-gun, but I think one of the things that has scared my wife was when they were kids her sister pulled one of her Dad's guns on her. He didn't keep them locked up like he should've. He does now - I threatened that my kids weren't going to go there if the guns weren't locked when he wasn't using them. This is going to sound weird, She isn't afraid of a gun, but yet she is /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

BTW, I don't take a position one way or the other on gun ownership. I think it is to each his own, but yet I don't see why the average person needs a fully automatic assault rifle or armor piercing hollow points. But hey, I don't know what other people do.

Now, back to you know you live in the country when there are places on your property that you can't see from anywhere in your house.

URRRK.

( a fully automatic assault rifle or armor piercing hollow points.)

Couple things. Assault rifle as has been bandied about over the last 12 years or so has nothing to do with full auto. They were restricted in 1938. Any real AP round is not a hollow point. Any round from a regular single shot or bolt action hunting rifle will defeat body armor. Most of which are a heck of a lot more powerful than a "assault rifle" Nuff said.

As to the wife, she taught Shotokan before I met her. Then I taught her to shoot. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'm a goooooooood boy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

varmisist beat me to that point:

hollow points are designed to shatter on impact and basically stop shortly there after doing lots of damage to the item it hits. Armor pericing is as stated a solid hard tipped type round which will go through just about any type of material up to a certain point of thickness. say 1/2" steel or 2" of body armor ect. standard hunting rifles come in so many configerations and even semi autos and can difenatly give anyone a bad day! most gov agencies know a hired HIT when they see one as the person is shot at close range using a standard .22 cal round. it is one of the deadliest guns going and also is very easy to buy ammo is available at the corner market and can't be traced. the BAN is pretty much to stop a few gun nuts who would be using it to stop the government if they decide to take the constitution away from us... this means well pretty much they can take all our rights and no-one can stop them not even US as they took our ability to defend ourselves away...

anyhow I'm no gun nut and only own a few, I hunt grownhogs only as they tear up my farm somethign bad. I have a 9MM hand gun for home defence as well as a 22 handgun for PLINKING the 22 semi-auto I rid my self of goafers with is accurate up to about 40 yards and deadly up to a mile and a half. I don't shoot unless I KNOW where my round is LIKELY to go. anyhow this is WAY off topic of the post so anyhow. so thes good for now...

Exactly, my statements were meant to be generalized statements and to be taken kinda light heartedly and not get everyone up in arms (No pun intended) about their rights. I think everyone knew what I meant, but just wanted to.....ah nevermind it isn't worth it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Geesh.

One of the first signs of spring is the smell of poop spreaders flinging their load before the ground thaws. The only thing the smell does is make you wonder how big the wife is going to want the garden this year.

You know you live in the country when:

You can shoot a gun and nobody else can hear it.
You have at least 1 building bigger than your house.
You can cut down 30 trees a year and not notice a difference.
Your primary heat source is firewood.
You have more things to ride on off-road than you have cars.
You spend more time outside (on your own premises) than you do in the house.
The closest sidewalk, streetlight, fire hydrant are miles away.
You have a pond for fire protection.
City water and sewers??? A real rarity.
Your gardening tools require more than a pitchfork and rake (and normally require a 3PH)
Your driveway may be longer than a city block.

Possibly - you may have a natural gas or oil well on your property.
