A tractor goes by your house and without looking at it you can tell who it is by the sound of the engine.
Same with most deisel pickups that go by.
The dogs start barkin and you actually do know something funny is going on somewhere.

ROFL Pineridge.

Disclaimer: this is humor.. no one get upset by my following statements:

We lovingly call them "Yard Freaks" around here. Yard Freaks = people who spend ungodly amounts of money on fertilizer and lawn tasks just so they have to cut it twice a week. This behavior is usually a product of "suburbia" and a bad case of "vanity".

I was once asked by a yard freak friend of mine about how I handled those slender leaves from the pin oaks (I think they actually have another name but most people around here call them that). My response to his question, "Decay man... we call it decay" brought about a flabbergasted look.

My wife and I grew up in the country but for a short time lived in suburbia (a development). We found it quite humorous that city folk living there with us referred to that as country living while in the same conversation talking about having the homeowners association put in street lights because it is too dark.

We've since realized our dream of getting back to the country and have 5 acres all our own. The general area of our house is only 3 total houses on about 250 acres. So no one around for a long ways.

A list from my wife who was stolen from the city.
**********************************************
When you have to take a 96qt ice chest to the supermarket.

The front page reads Betsy Jones son home on leave from Iraq. (Right under 14PT P&Y BUCK ARROWED LAST WEEK.)

Your pets have battle scars from fights with other animal species.

Aren't many speed limit signs because you can't accelerate to more than 20mph before the next curve anyway.

75% of area residents live in old trailers and drive junk, but have brand new bass boats and 4 wheelers parked out front.

When hauling off the trash, coyotes jump out of the dumpster and cause you to wet yourself.

Do you note a hint of conrempt in this list, or is it just me?

Resurrecting my own post.
You know... (We had our first cold morning of the season. It was 46 today! brrrrr.) You can go out in the morning, leave your car running for a few minutes to warm it up, and not worry about someone stealing it.

...When you put your watermelon in the springhouse in stead of taking up space in the fridge.

...when you butcher you own cows, pigs, and turkeys for the years meat supply.

...when you cut, wrap, smoke, all of that meat yourself.

...when passers by stop to ask are you gonna keep that tongue?

...when gizzards are considered a delicassy.

...when you have literally seen a chicken run with its head chopped off.

...you live close to towns that are named "Hooker", "Bruin" or "Coal Town"

(No offense Varmin. My dad grew up in West Sunbury)

I have a whole lot more but I have used up enough space.

YKYLITCW...You find it strange that visitors from the city, when they get out of there cars they lock the doors. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That one is funny.....I was born and raised in the city, but for the most part have adopted to "county livin'" pretty well - at least I think so. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We don't lock are cars at night, I even have left my shed w/ all of my hand/power tools in it unlocked a couple of times - though I try not to do that one too often - no sense pushing my luck. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif When Mom & Dad comes to the house they'll say get something out of the car. I'll run outside to grab it only to have to run back in the house to get some keys so I can get in the car /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Really makes me mad when it is raining - which is usually why they didn't grab it in the first place - they didn't want to get wet. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Welcome to my world. I'll qualify it that it's my in-laws but dang, how many locks do they need? When they come to our house, my wife surrenders her parking spot in the (attached) garage to them. They lock the car, set its alarm... My FEL locks every lock on every door before it gets dark. Well, I'm outside still. Sometimes it's a project trying to get back in the house. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

LOL . . . I put a digital lock on the front door of the house so I can never be locked out! But what makes me insane is when I am out working and I have the garage door open so I can have access tools and equipment and someone closes the garage door! I know who to blame. The lovely Mrs_Bob thinks the house looks better when the garage doors are down.

Funny thing is you can't see the garage doors from the road because the house is built on a ridge slope and the peak of the ridge is between the house and the road so people driving down the road see our roof and the upper level of the house, but can't see the garage! Personally I think she closes the door because she wants to see me more often . . . or something like that /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
