You can sit in the outhouse on a warm summer day with the door open, enjoying the sun and reducing interior aromas, and no one can see you except your yellow lab who sticks his head in the door and grabs an empty toilet paper roll from the spit-toon.

Possibly - you may have a natural gas well on your property.
If I had free gas I would hook up a gen to it and not pay any utility bills.

You can shoot a gun and nobody else can hear it.
You have at least 1 building bigger than your house.
You can cut down 30 trees a year and not notice a difference.
Your primary heat source is firewood.
You have more things to ride on off-road than you have cars.
You spend more time outside (on your own premises) than you do in the house.
The closest sidewalk, streetlight, fire hydrant are miles away.
You have a pond for fire protection.
City water and sewers??? A real rarity.
Your gardening tools require more than a pitchfork and rake (and normally require a 3PH)
Your driveway may be longer than a city block.

Possibly - you may have a natural gas or oil well on your property. )

You won't have any water if a water line is busted power or no power.

( EastTexFrank,

Thanks for the info. We're pretty low from the water tower so I expected we'd have pressure for quite awhile (even if they didn't have a generator).
One thing I need to keep in mind. My septic system has a pump to get the liquid from the final (3rd) tank out to the mound. In my case, it may be best for me to shut off the city water if the power goes out and I don't have the generator connected. I'd hate for lots of water to be used and fill all the septic tanks beyond their capacity. (there's an actual plug in the 3rd tank to plug the pump in. I'd hate for it to get to that level...) )

The closest stop sign is 10 miles and the nearest stop light?....~ 30 miles

Round trip to the store......farther than the stop light each way.

"Redneck" pee? How is that different from the normal process? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Got up this morning and the wind was blowing about 40mph out of the north.

Man, sometimes a post just won't go away, eh?
How about this one: YKYLITCW... You have to set your clock radio to the buzzer mode because you can't get any radio stations!
