Your favorite tool and why?

My dad was a steam fitter and he owned a Lincoln SA200 gasoline engine welder. About 30 years ago it quit working and after that it sat in the shed. He passed away 2 years ago and last summer I decided to bring it home to NC from WI and see if I could fix it up. My older brothers and a family friend who were there when I was loading it up talked about how my dad taught them to weld on that machine. They are all steam fitters.
It sure was rewarding getting it running. The internet is a wonderful thing when you are working on an old machine.
Now it runs fine. It's great to have such a cool machine as an heirloom.

My favorite tool is my credit card. It gets me the exact tool I need when I need it, so THAT tool becomes my favorite tool for the time being.

Rob you beat me to it. My CC is my best AND worse tool. It sometimes buys tools that are useless but are still cute.

I bought the O-Ratchet set (simular to the Eliminator) off ebay a couple years ago for $15 plus shipping. I have never used it but it does look cool. I ended up just tossing it in the tractor tool junk box just in case. I think if someone offered me a coke for it I'd take it. But it just looks cool. :) There are some out on ebay now. Also look for ARMSTRONG ELIMINATOR on Ebay. Some out there to.

My favorite tool? .... well ... not exactly a tool .... but ... my wife would have to be my answer. Having her around to "hold the other end", bounce ideas off, and generally be there - makes every job I do go a lot faster and easier than working alone.

How much does the eliminator set you back?

The Eliminator Ratchet looks like it could come in handy often, So I googled and found this site http://www.1sourcesupplies.com/Temp-order-tables/1s-handtools/1s-handtools.html
it looks like Pineridges set will set you back almost double what he paid 10 years ago. But you can get a 9 piece set for 79 male deer. They also have 1/2 drive set's.

No immediate need for it now so that may be a X-mas request.

Seriously, or are you making up for spending to much on an actual tool? I go out to the garage to be alone... J/K Mrs Mikim ;)

My favorite tool is the welder. 15 years after my first attempt at making two pieces stick together (quite unsuccessfully) and after working plant maintenance for several years and burning through a lot of rod, I still love taking boring, straight metal, cutting it up into bits and putting them together into something useful.

go out to the garage to be alone.....I understand that - but drive 3 hours to a country place and spend a few days working alone out in the boonies where if you get hurt or need help - you're SOL -- and return at night to an empty place to eat alone and spend the night alone ----- makes me appreciate her even more. Been more than once I dearly wished she were there to help. like a couple of weeks ago when I put a nail in my hand with my framing hammer (pneumatic) wasn't even anybody around to hear me yell.
