Your (Former) Football Teams, and Predictions

Hello, tractors. Goodbye, football.

What with shopping for tractors and now tractoring every weekend, I have no time to watch football anymore. I haven't even seen one college or pro game this season. This is sicko.

Well, now that we solved the presidential election, I thought we could share what college and pro teams we would root for if we had time, and what are our predictions for the Superbowl winner and college national champ.

Pro: I really don't have a strong rooting interest, but generally support the NY teams with a preference for the Jets (but less interested now that Parcells is gone). I don't have a clue who is good this year.

College: My real love. For 25 years. One of my four alma maters. Where my daughter is in law school now. The invincible........

Like you I don't have much interest in the pros. College is what I enjoy. No doubt, you gotta like FSU. Although He is probably reaching the end of his career, Bowden just keeps doing it. Nebraska, of course. That QB Crouch, seems like he can do it all. The big 12 is a tough conference, If they make it thru, I look for Nebraska and FSU in a National Champ. bowl game. I think Nebraska will get the ring.
Good post. Ernie

I'll have to express my support for the Tennessee Volunteers.

I'm up a little later tonight than usual having just watched us get upset by the LSU Tigers. Keeps us humble.

As a Maryland alumnus, I must concede to FSU after last weeks blowout (59-07, and that might have been only the first quarter /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif). Good thing basketball season is right around the corner - revenge time.

As for the pros, I live in a market that is claimed by both the Redskins and the Ravens. But don't really follow either. Grew up with Johnny-U. When the Colts left town, my spirit went with them.

Re: Your (Former) Football Teams, and Predictions

College football is unfulfilling because they play all season, play one playoff game, and a bunch of paper shufflers crown a champion. I hate that. Why can't they have playoffs in division 1A like the smaller divisions and high school?

The team I pull for is the University of Texas. They should be real good in another couple of years.

I have been an avid Cowboy fan from their inception and still am. They are extremely ordinary right now and probably won't be back in the playoffs for many years.

I find myself watching the Colts and that great young QB Manning and that great running back James. They remind me of the 1992 Cowboys, and you know how good that team turned out to be.

I'm also a BIG high school football fan. Its the best football entertainment dollar there is. HS football is huge in Texas, and our team made the quarterfinals in class 2A last year(1A is smallest class, 5A is largest). We started the season ranked number 6, but had several key injuries and our record is 1-3 right now. I have missed maybe 5 or 6 games in the almost 30 years since I played 8-man football at the high school in the town where I still live.

There are several Texas High School football forums I hang around like I do this tractor forum. I have to say you guys aren't near as cold blooded as those fans from all over Texas making big predictions about how they will kick the other team's a$$. There are several ratings services on the internet where every team (about 1200 or 1500) in the state has a power rating, etc. A high school football lover's paradise.

Alan L.
I too would like to see a play off system, but I don't think thats likely to happen. The offical answer is that the season would go on too long. These are after all Student/Athletes, and they have other things to do beside play football. There is truth in this. The majority of these young men will not play in the NFL, and most work hard to maintain a decent GPA. I also think that the Schools like it just the way it is. The way it is if a Team goes 7&3, its a winning season and they usually go to a bowl game. (except for Notre Dame then change the numbers to 6&4) A winning season means happy Alumni $$$, a bowl game means more $$$. Most teams have one or two creme puffs on their schedule, to make that goal easier to reach. Any type of playoff system would do away with the creme puffs. The bottom line is the bottom line. The thing I don't like is at the end of the season there may be three teams all undefeated, say FSU, Nebraska, and Virginia Tech. VT is probably gonna be ranked third based on "schedule" In my mind the Hoakies should at least get a shot. As far as Texas, other than not being a National champion team, there's nothing wrong with em right now. And heck, I'm more of an Aggie fan.

Re: Your (Former) Football Teams, and Predictions

I follow both Oklahoma teams, University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, after that, any other Big 12 school and Alabama (been an Alabama fan since the 60s). If I go to a game, it is at OSU because it is a nicer environment and I can get 30 yard line seats. I haven't watched a professional game in years. The trend toward passing every down doesn't interest me as much as some rushing so I gave up on the pro game. College is getting as bad (or good, depending on your perspective). I went to a high school game Friday night in Allen, TX and thought it was a lot of fun. My nephew plays for Allen so I will probably go again this year sometime. It always makes it more fun if you know someone playing. He is almost as good as I say I was /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. Texas high school foo'ball is an experience everybody needs to have. They take that stuff serious.
