Brad, I had the same response as Soundguy but he beat me to posting it.
A magneto ignition is a self contained stand alone system - unitized generator,coil, points, distributor, etc, and is completely independant of the balance of the electrical system. Because there's no connection to starting/charging there's no affect.
Gas tractors without a magneto ignition use a collection of parts - coil, distributor with points, etc which is dependent on battery/charging system for it's energy source thus are directly affected by changing system voltage.
Beyond that, any points system will suffer from higher than designed voltage. Points are just a small DC switch. At my workplace we have switches that disconnect 345K volts. Without the accompanying blast of high pressure air that quenches the arc that voltage will jump the 12' gap & continue to flow releasing huge amounts of heat & ultimately (in seconds) melt down the switch. Double the voltage at your points & you create lightning that will eventually eat up the contacts. Lower voltage = longer life. Not the technical answer you can get from Soundguy, but the same result. MikeD74t
