It's kind of a joke around here. Since this is a home based business everyone, including employees can tell when I start a new project because of all the pictures and drawings that I start scribbling. I'm a hands on guy.

Well this past weekend I removed my in ground pool. Took 4.5 days of my time plus 8 of my buddies (average of 2-3 per day) to "git R done". The neighbor didn't think too highly of it, as the police showed up for a noise complaint. The hammer was pretty loud
. Although, we didn't start machinery before 8am and shut down at dark ~7pm.
I need to shoot some after pix, but I'll be posting a full write up in this forum. Attached is a teaser. How many can say they had a backhoe in their pool?

I have 2 sets of neighbors. My subruban neighbors of 18 years are too busy running their lives and businesses to notice what each other is doing. They really are nice and friendly, but I know from experience they are exhausted after 12 hours at the office.
My country neighbors of 5 years are another matter. They're busy, but they always have time for a chat. They're always smiling and waving as we work; always stopping by for a chat, asking about things, occasionally asking for help, and always offering help. When one of us starts a project, the rest stop in and ask about it and offer help and tools. I know about 10 neighbors on my little road, and every last one of them are first class. They watch my place when I'm gone, and I can always count on them. Only 1 other neighbor is retired, but he works as much as any of us.

Well I have 3 neighbors, I have been hear only a little over a year and I am not unfriendly but I am also not looking for friends really either. 1 I can barley see is not friendly at all and that’s fine I only see him now and then walking the dogs. The other 1 up front just moved back in a few weeks ago after a nasty divorce. I just met her and I am cautious as she seems a little needy but I could be wrong but I am keeping my distance. My neighbors up back now that’s a different story. They just moved in from Boston about 3 months ago LOL the guys that put up there fence (in a heavy Jam akin accent) said "I see you have a real city boy on your hands" They bought a couple of acres adjacent to mine. Well now I have new students in living in wilderness so to speak. They are a wonderful couple and I like them a lot. They think I can do anything but I tell him all the time just because you have never done it doesn't mean you can't

I'll go a step further JohnK. I am cheap!! I'd rather do it, save money, and move on. Most of the time I can mess it up just as good as a pro and in some cases I might even have more expierence!! But mostly it's money, I don't have a lot of it.
Got my 4-5 core group of city neighbors, most get out and do things, some should not.
At the country we are all busy but never to much to stop and visit. Some weekends while working on the weekend place, I bet in the 12 hours of daylight, I got in 8 hours of work. The rest folks stopping by to visit. But wouldn't change a second. If I need something or they need something, we're there.

quite a few of my nieghbors are get out and do stuff (one of which i help build custom chopers from the ground up in his garage).. the coworkers on the other hand.... get his dear in the headlights work when i talk about stuff i do durring the weekends....

I don't really know my neighbors that well. The one accross the road is the fire chief for the town that we are on the outskirts of. We help each other out now and again. My other neighbors are retired and travel a lot. I speak to them and we have nice conversations but that is pretty much it. They sometimes comment on me always out working in the yard.
Now at work that is a different story as I work in dowtown Washington D.C. and most of my co-workers live in or around DC. I have a picture of my B-7800 with my boy setting on it on the wall in my office. It always gets comments like "Do you own that big tractor?" I also have pictures on my house and land and they are amazed that I actually mow that. Most of them can't comprehend being outside doing a project like a shed, concrete slab, stone driveway repair, etc.

Well, I've got to comment on this thread.
I live in a golfing community and most of my neighbors are members of the same private Country Club where I've been a member for over 20 years. They really think I'm nuts. My garage is filled with milling machines, surface grinder, lathe and lots of other tools. Blue prints and tractor parts all over the place. Theirs are filled with Mercedes and BMW's and they are all executive types. Before I retired and drove to my mold making plant it was all normal, but now that I do some of this stuff in my garage it blows their minds. They had no idea what I did.
Now my neighbors at the rural property are a little different, but they think I'm nuts too because I live in a campground there on the weekends. No electricity except a generator to run my tools. They come over and I'm welding or making something or working on my tractor and they just can't believe working under those conditions. That's where I put together all my tractor projects.
My golfing buddies at home really get a kick out of what I do at home and at camp. They know me from the golf course. I have been past club champion several times, served on all the committees as chairman and served on the Board, so their view of me is completely removed from what I'm really like. It's hard for them to understand how a blue collar guy can be a member let alone having to give them 5 shots a side.
