Your towing rigs and trailers

We have 3 of the 6.7 powerstroke diesels at work, so far trouble free. One is nearing 100k, mostly highway miles, unloaded. Another is in a hotshot truck, f550, with just over 60k miles, often towing 20k to 25k lbs gcvw.

There is a 6.4 powerstroke that we deleted the dpf and egr, and it's a beast in my opinion. When I have to take a truck out in the field, that's the one I prefer. No studs or other mods, just a pcm flash to deal with the deletes.

BulletProof is a term used in regards to the International-Navistar 6.0L & 6.4L PowerStroke Diesels from 2003-2010... there were common issues that came up both from emissions devices and factory design issues. They are so widely known that there is a complete market industry based on fixing those issues.

Deleting emissions junk is common across all brands, including the new in-house Ford diesels. Sooooo, the term BulletProof is not a loose term used when buying and modifying today's modern diesel engines... you won't have to BulletProof the new ones.
10-4 some of the guys at work are always doing something to their 6.0 fords, one guy not far from here has got rich bullet proofing the 6.0 motors, all I was saying is diesels in general since the re-generation started on the larger trucks has been a major problem, we have had major problems with our bucket trucks and line trucks constantly not going into regen mode and us being unable to manually regen the truck and it goes into limp mode, and that is the Isuzu's the freightliners, Peterbilt with the Paquarr engine, I'm just not sure that with the resrictions that are in place on today's diesels that we are going in the right direction.

Totally agree... I do take comfort now knowing that my truck is now free of all that garbage. And my other car is a prius (no joke, this is our second one) so hopefully the tree-huggers won't chastise me on deleting emissions from my truck.

I agree 100%. When you mentioned in a previous post why should someone have to modify a new very expensive truck just to make it reliable. I feel sorry for anyone buying a new diesel truck these days. The DEF system is a joke. The EPA is to blame.

I just bought a new 3/4 ton Chevrolet 2500 HD with a 6.0 gas motor last year and the reason I went with the gas motor was because of all the stuff on the new diesel's especially DEF and regeneration, and the fact that I don't pull for a living, so far I have not been the least bit dissatisfied with the gas motor, obviously it doesn't have the torque numbers of the diesels but seems like we get awful hung up on numbers today, I can remember some of the 3/4 ton trucks of days gone by wouldn't even come close to the 1/2 ton truck specs of today and we did the same work with them back then and was happy because at the time they were top of the line.

Here's what egr does to a 2014 6.7 cummins with 18000 miles on it

At 7000 feet above sea level, i need the diesel for towing. Gas engines are gutless up here.

To me it's worth the extra cost to deal with the emissions, a necessary evil.

That is pitiful for a new truck. My 2012 6.7 Cummins was completely clogged at the cat system at only 13000 miles. Limp mode is just a matter of time and a few miles. I really love a diesel truck but not the newer ones. My 2006 Dodge diesel with the 5.9 is the best truck I have ever owned! Will never sell it.

All in all it was about 200 lbs of gov mandated crap that fell off my truck that day

Well so I threw the 50 HP tow-tune on the 6.0L this morning. Really woke up the truck off the line. Otherwise truck felt the same. O did lose a little MPG (today was under 10 MPG towing, typically it's 10-11) though I was in an area with lots of hills.

There's also a 65 HP tow-tune, I might try it just to see what kind of increases I see.
