When you do the concrete you might plan to include some tie down "pots" cast in. There will come a time that they are indispensable for some task.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm going to start with the floor and extending an apron hopefully doubling my floor space. There wasn't a bad idea in the bunch so its just a question of stretching my dollars.
Thanks again everyone.

That 3 ton A frame hoist is very nice and a back saver I am sure.

Yes, it has been very handy so far and we have used it many times. Pulled a engine with it this week.

If you're not familiar with garagejournal.com be sure to visit over there. Not a lot of tractor shops but some great garages and many ideas that can be implemented into a tractor shop. Some of them displayed are very glitzy but all in all a very solid, nice bunch of guys with some really good ideas.

A thought on insulation and windows. I had a bank of 4 windows installed on the South side of the shop; also insulated the inside...and even without heating, the shop is always about 15 to 20 degrees warmer in the Winter than it is outside. I have had the shop about 11 years, and have never seen it below freezing inside.

Don't skimp on lighting. Frustrating when you can't seen anything.
Insulation - I'm thankfull for mine in the summer and winter.
Ventilation - My shop is lacking, I need to work on this.
Electrical - I went overboard, but I never pop a breaker!
Air - Plumb it all over.
Entertainment - I like radio so I always have one on, but if TV or something else is your thing why not have it out there? My stereo setup is just my junk from college, but I have speakers inside and out. Nice to listen to a ball game or something while you work.
Refrigeration - definitely a fridge full of your favorite beverages.

Just a general comment not necessarily for the OP:

If you have young kids that need to be watched, incorporate something in or near your shop so they want to be out there with you but out of harms way. I put the swing set right outside my shop window, and in the seldom used end of the shop (inside), I had some big appliance boxes with doors and windows cut into them for playhouses. No sense being trapped in the house when it's your turn for childcare.
