Your Tractor's Age????

"Should give everyone a good feeling if they've bought a late model, quality tractor!!! They've got a lot of years of use ahead of them."

I have an Allis 175 built in 1975. A large frame 63 hp tractor, does everything I ask it to. I'm not sure the new models will have the life span of the vintage models.

Most used until June was a 1948 8N ford used to grade my driveway and mow my 15 acres plus both my daughters places (5 and 8 acres). I have had it for 17 years. My new 2006 kubota L2800 HST will take over the lead for most used in the future.

I should have used capitalization for emphasis, I used the word "quality" in that statement. I think if you buy a quality machine today it will still be serving you thirty years from now.

But I also think that tractors will tend to be kept by the same owner shorter periods of time in the future because of technology advancements. Tractors, just like everything else humans fabricate, will become obsolete quicker as technology advances. The first twenty years of your AC175's life there was very little technological advancement in tractors. Probaby the most significant was better cab design. Otherwise, they stayed about the same. In the last few years technology has stepped in and changed the drive systems by adding computers as well as many other modernizations which have dated your tractor significantly. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with your tractor. I'm just saying the a 60HP tractor of today has a lot of improvements over the same size tractor built in 1975. I enjoy watching these changes. I also wonder when I see a new design leap, why it took us so long to get it!!! :)

Most used up til now -- 1983 Allis-Chalmers (Hinomoto) 5020-4 with 1100 hrs.
Now that I am haying 25+ acres that will change, but the little old ugly A-C is still the primary brush hog, box blade, and general utility workhorse -- it even moves the baler around ... or powers it, but not both at the same time.

The new main mover is a 2006 Mahindra 6500 4WD with 35 hours (and 8-10 more tomorrow).

Transitioning from CUT on 5 acres to Ag Tractor on 30.

1947 Ford 2N. I have had it about 20 years. It has done a lot of brush hog and box blade work. Will be for sale when the brand spankin new B3030 arrives - hopefully tomorrow.

Having spent hours on the www. I found the following site.
It gives quite a lot of information regarding the age of tractors made for the Japanese market.
I hope this may be of some use.

A 1959 MF(FE)35, probably 15,000 hours on it,needs a resto completed. A 1069 or so MF 12, also waiting in line for a resto, and a 2008 MF 1523, 137 hours, had it 1 year now.

The model year of my 770 is a 1989, however as of last week, has only 976 hrs. At this rate I'll be long dead before the tractor is! I am thinking of trading it in though for a machine with a bigger loader and HST.
