As a follow up, I talked to my local yanmar dealer and he was reluctant to say that the tractor could lift a ton off a trailer. He was also reluctant to bring one by for me to try out and see if it could. THe only consolation I received was that I could bring a ton of whatever on a pallet to his dealership and they would use the tractor with their forks to see if it would do it. Anyway, with hesitation and that much run around (about 30 miles from my house) I have ruled out the yanmar for consideration. Thanks to all who helped in my search for information. Kubota seems hit or miss right now with some saying yes and others no. Have a few more inquiries there.

Did you tell the dealer "If you bring it out and it handles the load, I'll buy it"? If the dealer said "No" to that, definitely go somewhere else. If this was just a test to get to round two of hmming and hawing, I can understand why he passed on that option.
