My Z425 starts but stops after running a few seconds. Seems like it is not getting fuel but all seems ok. Any ideas?

What have you done?
What have you checked for?
Check for spark Bad ignition module/coil(s)
Check for fuel (fuel filter, fuel pump, then carb (float, inlet valve, jets, idle circcuit,) if equipped, or plugged injectors

Not all "ok" if it stops running after a few seconds, maybe check if it is still getting fuel.. If not, why.. fuel filter, bad fuel, ??

If getting fuel, then go to shutoff conditions.. safety switch, ??

Well I changed the fuel filter, changed the plugs and that's about it so far. Changed the solenoid last year. It starts up and then after about 5 to 10 seconds it just quits. Got me confused.

Do you use the choke ? mine must be choked on cold starts.

Check the fuel shutoff solenoid. It may be bound up, not opening all the way.

Yes. I have to use the choke every time I start it. always had since I owned the mower.

Is the fuel solenoid easily found or do I have to dis-assemble the sheet metal to get to it.

Fuel solenoid is part of the carb, usually attached/part of the fuel bowl.

May look like this schematic.. threads into the float bowl on the carb and should have a wire attached.

This type of solenoid is activated by applying +12V to the wire and ground on the solenoid case. When activated, the plunger pulls into the solenoid and allows fuel to flow into the carb bowl.

After removing the solenoid from the carb, you can test it to see if it is working. With voltage applied the plunger should retract, if not, the solenoid is bad, or it has a bad connector/broken wire.

You can leave the solenoid out and just put a plug in the hole to see if that is the problem.
