Could the check valves be removed to make / help them draw equally ?

I would imagine without the check valves the tanks would equalize on gravity immediately. I have no idea why they need to be there.

I am hesitant to alter the setup, but may consider removing the check valves and tank filters, and add a large 2 micron spin on filter after the "T" fitting.

The check valves keep the low side tank from flooding when traversing long slopes.
Good info. Since I now have a bulk fuel tank I fill both tanks before mowing. I do mow across some decent slopes so I won't be making any modifications to my ZD.

Same here.
I have to start off with both tanks full to finish what I start.
I’m not mowing a subdivision yard lol
I also mow some very steep sloped banks (fluid filled rear tires) so I better leave my check valves in place.
