Had the same problem with these zerks. My solution was to drill and tap to the next size (ISTR 1/4-28) and thread in new zerks. The originals are just pressed in/not threaded and the force of the grease can pump them out. The new screw in zerks work better although the thread are still in plastic so no very strong over time.
Looks like the new axle bolts are a great idea, might just make a set and get a set of new wheels. They really get beat after a while.
