Zero turn in favor of a BX 60" MMM

I didn't trade it in .
I just took it out of service.

I have a BX-24 and a 60 inch MMM and I used it to mow 5 acres of field and lawn. I got tired of removing the mower to do landscaping work (took one time) and bought a BX1850 this year with a 50 inch MMM to do the grass cutting. I also use it with a post hole digger and an another implement which allows me to dig trenches. I would have to remove the backhoe on the BX24 to do the same job. The BX1850 with mower was only about 2 grand more than a decent mowing machine.

I do most of my mowing with the 60'' BX23 MMM .
I've done a big bunch of landscaping here on my 2.33 acres without removing the MMM and it's worked very very well.
I bought a new BX1500 with a 48'' MMM last Nov. to mow where I don't mow with the BX23

Why not just look into putting a rear mount finish mower on versus the MMM.
Like a landpride or something....
Just a thougth... and when I bought my 3830... I considered the MMM but the dealer suggeted a 3pt rear finish mower and I am glad he did....

1*What did you do with the 60'' MMM?
I use the mowers on both my BXs.
It wouldn't take long using both tractors to knock down 5 acres.
2*I never have removed the BX23 BH thanks to the 2 BX1500s,

The BX1500 will handle a 54" deck very well. I have not experienced trouble with being bogged down as of yet. I mow about 2 flat acres and 1/4 acre that is ranging in degree of slope.

My local dealer has a 54''MMM for $1300.
But I hate to trade my New 48'' MMM for a used 54'' mower. and probably take a loss on the swap.
It would really be bad if I made the swap only to find out the BX1500 was underpowered for the 54 incher.

I like the 2 tractor arrangement . That way there is no implement switching involved.

I have many ways I can cut grass, MMM, 3pt bush-hog, Zero turn, Finish mower with it's own engine, and my Power-Track 1445 could power a hyd mower if I had one. The one that I use the most is the Zero turn Dixie Chopper.

If you want to do flat land lawn mowing, there is nothing better than a Zero turn mower. I have several Dixie Choppers with 25 HP Kohler engines. Not only will they cut grass, but you can add a vacuum bagger for leaves and grass, you can pull the trash cart to the road, You can spray round up and throw out fertilizer. They are easy to maneuver and some are very fast. Some people say why is he cutting so fast, because he can. They are fairly easy to fix. They will cut hills, but you have to learn how. I slid down one hill in 15 years. With a set of gator blades and a bagger, you have one fine machine. Even women like using it.

You can get some good commercial used zero turn mowers about a third off new price.

I just learned that Dixie Chopper has a propane model that cut at 15 mph. That is about 8 acres per hour

If you have any slopes beware of the zero turn mowers. They do not do banks very well. They will pull the front of the mower down hill if you are going across the hill. They tend to pull out of control downhill. They do very well going up hill and backing back down(kind of scary though). I bought a 26HP 60 inch cut commericial machine and had it a week and took it back for the above reason.

This was pretty much my experience with a ZTR. I bought a used G1800S (4 wheel steering, almost as good as a ZTR for maneuverability), I'm selling my ZTR.

For flat property, you can't beat the ZTR, although, you do have to be careful about tearing up the edge of mulch-beds by dragging the inside rear wheel through. I have a Simplicity Javelin with a 44" deck (38,44,52 available). If I had it to do over again, I'd get the 52", so that I could edge around the various small trees and such w/o dragging the rear wheel through the mulch on tight turns.
