Since the ROL looks to be not used. Can you reverse install it so it folds forward and provides upper support to grab to get on and off?

No - the ROPS already leans forward on the Ferris machines - reversing would put it further away.

You could find a local fabricator to fashion something in a weekend. A neighbor had a pair of really nice deep “U” shaped tubing that was mounted right up front next to the pivot wheels of their zero turn. He was able to pull himself up and walk on/off to the front. It was painted to color match his Husky and the fabricator even put on some non-slip grips for extra margin of safety.

I think it depends on the unit. My Cub Cadet ZT2 is very easy to mount directly from the front. I don't need a grab bar yet but it is so easy to mount you'd have to be in pretty bad shape to need one for this machine anyway.

Four years ago I saw my then 92 year old father-in-law trying to get off his Cub Cadel ZTR and I thought he was going to fall. The next week I bought one of the Bad Boy assist bars and mounted it on his mower. It enabled him to mow the rest of that year and part of the following. He passed away at 94 last year. I have the bar in the shop and am going to mount it on my mower and hang a five gallon bucket on it.

All the bar consists of is a bar with a bracket and a couple screw holes in it. I think somebody has pictures earlier in this thread. I highly recommend using this.

The cost of that bar would be really inexpensive compared to breaking a wrist or a hip.

Another option would be to build a little wooden platform with regular steps that you could park the mower real close to, and then step to/from the mower to/from the wooden deck.

you could use black pipe, and make a railing for 3 sides, like this kit would work, or buy just the pieces you need

by using a 3 sided railing I think it would be safer for someone with balance issues
