Zero Turn; narrowed it down to Exmark or Scag

/ Zero Turn; narrowed it down to Exmark or Scag #11
Wow, when I read this I got really excited. I am also debating between the Scag and Exmark. Two different models but same companies.

My main intention is my yard (3-4 acres of cutting) with some pizza money on the side. I do not own a zero turn not have ever owned one.

I have an AWESOME Exmark dealer a couple miles away. He let me demo a Lazer Z X series last year. It cut well but with my property as bumpy as it is, I took a beating. This made me think. I need comfort. So, they have a phenomenal suspension seat I would like to try against the Scag Cheetah with suspension platform.

I stopped in the Scag dealer who was a bit salty. He offered me a demo as well and said it would beat the Exmark hands down. Where my post is relevant. The two mowers I am looking at and the two models you are looking at have the same decks. Ultra Cut vs Velocity. There are several preference posts on clumping, adjustable baffles etc. I was quoted essentially the same/close price for the comparable models by the dealers. I agree with Tom and am a Kawasaki fan. I have owned 2 commercial Kaws and they seem bulletproof. I have never owned a Kohler but my father inlaw does on his JD rider and he has had problems. (Something with oil) I have never looked into it so I don't know. I also know guys who beat on their Kohlers and run great. I am sure they are a great mower but I would stick with Kawasaki as its what I know. Now to contradict myself again. The debate of EFI which I think is offered by Kohler on these two units.

So for me, I think it will come down to comfort, dealer then cut as sad as it may be. Suffering quality over the other two. However, I am sure these are two major brands and anything major should do a decent job.

I have 2 Scags. A 48 hydro with a Kawi and a 36 with a Kohler. They are the best built mowers on the market. From the gauge of the steel decks to the bearings in the spindles to the engagement clutches. If you have a choice in engines...get the Kawi. They use less fuel, start easier, run cooler and last longer.

I have looked at both machines, and they are both very nice. My choice would be the Kawasaki engine, regardless of what mower it's on.

I'm considering a new zero turn mower. I want a dependable, commercial quality mower (this is not a commercial application). After researching it a bit I have it narrowed down to either an Exmark or a Scag (based on my local dealers' offerings, reviews, etc). I know there are other good mowers out there but I am comfortable with choosing between these 2 manufacturers.

I currently have a 2001 Yazoo Kees ZT Max w/ a 61" deck and a 25hp Kohler. Bought it used 4 years ago from a neighbor and it's been great. I like the deck size and don't want to go bigger or smaller. I am mowing about 3 acres every week and an additional 3 acres every other week or so depending on rainfall (this year I've been cutting a lot). I also have a 6' Bush Hog for other parts of my property but like to use the zero turn in some areas for a finer cut and due to soft spots.

My 2 choices are (neither are fuel injected):
Exmark Lazer E, 60" deck, 27hp Kohler Command, $8,500 (after a $500 rebate)
Scag Tiger Cat, 61" Velocity deck, 27hp Kawasaki, $8,699

I'm sure both are reliable and deliver a great cut. Any thoughts? Or is it really a toss up?

If you have a Gravely dealer nearby, I would recommend you look at the 60" Pro-Turn 100XDZ which has a MSRP of $8,569 but my dealer shows it on sale for the fall season at $7799. It's a worthy comparison to the ZTR's you are looking at!! It has the Kawa FX730V and ZT-3400 HydroGear trannies. Here's a link to all the specs if you want to check it out:
