Zero turn, small compact or an economy rider?

I used a JD 317 for many years with no notch. But, then again it had a seperate choke. When it was bought it was recommended that it be run at full throttle for mowing.

The Sears that I use around the house has a notch and no choke.

almost every LT OR GT i have seen has a notch for mowing. usually at highest engine rpm.

that is really strange as my 13 year old craftsman has a Notch that is clearly marked SET HERE FOR MOWING.

KAB doesn't say whether he has hills to worry about or not, but for slopes a new ZTR option is the Hustler ATZ. It has a long wheelbase, ATV tires (turned backwards) and a significant amout of wheel weight and is marketed as highly adept on hills--rated for traversing 25 deg. slopes. It also has a certified ROPS (which makes it look like a go-kart, but a few years on this board sure makes rollover protection seem like a great idea) and has 8" of seat suspension for smoothing out the rough patches, and is built around a Kohler 27. I'm giving it a thought because I'd like to shuck the belly mower on the tractor and get a bit better quality of cut.

I've recently seen some ZTR's with R1 (Ag) type tires on the rear. These have been on landscape businesses trailers. If I had troubles on my little hills I was going to try that. But regular turf tires do fine on my yard. Nice to know that R1's are an option for some ZTR's, if you have the clearance.

( I went with the ZTR. I got one of the commercial units, a Scag Wildcat with a 61" deck. I can mow our 4 acres in a little over 2 hours. The best time I did with our Kubota L3010 with a 72" RFM was 2 1/2 hours.)

Humm, I'm having the same dilemma. The top piece holding the cutting deck of my 42" mower to the tractor is broken. I will try to fix it but I'm also looking at ZTR or 72" RFM for my JD790. Since the present mower is only 42" (2 acres to cut, big chunk of it is open space), I think the RFM makes more sense than ZTR because of the big difference in cost vs. ZTR and vs the 42" width of my present mower.

You want to cut cutting time down.....Then get a B-2910 with a 72" MMM ...that is 6 feet of cutting and with a finishing mower at that ...and the zero turn mowers are just a toy compared to a tractor .....I just got a new B-2910 with this set-up .......can't beat it with a STICK!

I'm sorry to disagree with you here, but a ZTR would blow your tractor away as far as cutting time.

BTW, how does your attachment relate to your post? Do you cut the grass at the local KFC?

Sure I do .... you have a very nice looking yard and tractor.

I'm sorry you are offended to learn that a ZTR is much faster at cutting than your setup, but I don't think I'm wrong about this one. A Dixie Chopper XT3200-72 will cut (using their data) 8.73 acres an hour. Granted, that is with no overlap and smooth running conditions -- but they will out cut any tractor with a similar or slightly larger deck.
