Steep hills like the one in that video are the reason why most mowing crews keep a walk-behind mower on the trailer. ZTRs are not meant to mow those kinds of slopes.

If that company was smart, they would require ROPS up, seatbelt on, and don't use the ZTR on any slope greater than xxx percent. And they would have every worker sign a statement that they had received a copy of the manual, had read it and understood it and agreed to strictly comply with it. That certainly wouldn't make the company bullet-proof, but when it comes to dealing with OSHA it would be better than kick in crotch.

that's the reason i purchased one of these (36" model) for my pond dams. awesome machine on steep slopes. hydro model is the way to go...initially a bit pricey, but just entry level compared to a hospital bill or worse.

Yup. My ROPS is always up, and the only time I lower it is when the tractor is on the trailer.

Absolutely. No point in having a ROPS if it's defeated by being folded down or removed. I always have mine up on my Scag Wildcat 62" deck ZTM. And on my 40 HP Kioti, with aluminum canopy for shade/branch protection.
Safety first and utmost concern, always.
Unsafe practices lead to accidents, injuries, and in worst cases death. Most often avoidable death, which is even sadder.

Something like below.
Diesel Progress North American - October 2015
If the link works it is from October diesel progress about remote controlled mowers for hills. Hate to think what they cost. Solves some liability issues. Complete robotic lawn movers are not far off. Like the one that can be driven and remote controlled.

notwithstanding the obvious safety benefits of robots, i hope i never see the day when i depend on a robotic lawnmower for the mowing job....if i reach that point, i'll just let someone better qualified than myself to do it. snuffing out bombs or underwater exploration, etc. are good examples of robotic use. but to sit on my porch & virtually watch the robot do the job is... maybe something for the gamers... not me!

Don't mow a steep wet hill?

Same here although I still leave the ROPS up on the trailer. Why bother taking it down?
