I have a 16 ft gooseneck dump trailer, that I am wanting to also use as my livestock trailer. Told the people at Bri Mar trailers what I wanted to do, and they acted like I was crazy. Anyone know who makes the slide in cattle racks, or do I need to do it myself? Many Thanks for any help.

Since cattle can pretty much tear anything up, I'd build it stout by welding hitch receiver tubing to the outside of the trailer (like stake pockets) and insert hitch tubing into it, welded to cut-down cattle panels. You could use regular hitch pins to stabilize the connection just like a vertical slide-in hitch. You could then attach the panels together with typical cattle panel connectors, or by using stake bed hardware like this Stake Bed Hardware on Samco Sales, Inc. .

If you don't feel that your fab or welding skills are up to the task you could use a weld shop to do it. New cattle panels and welding time would most likely be less expensive than a pre-fab system (if one even exists.) You could also look for used panels to keep costs down.

Good luck!

Dave,

I think that's a pretty good idea you have. Very practicable.
If you do make something...post some pics for us to see. Some of us may do what you are pioneering.

Don't forget to put mats or other non-skid surface on the floor. A steel floor will mean injured livestock.

Thanks Guys for all the help and info. Gonna make it myself. Told Bri Mar, everyone could not afford a trailer for every job. My gooseneck dump,
has a deck over top, for hauling round bales, tie downs inside for hauling the tractors, and a 3 way gate to do what I need there. Going to make the rack myself, out of 2 in ID square tubing for the uprights, and 1 in tubing for the top bows. Found some old conveyer belt for the floors. Will keep you posted Thanks again Dave WV

Watch that old conveyer belt. It can be really slick.

My only concern would be the deck height. Can you get the cattle on and off the trailer without them jumping? Check both your place and the sale barn, we load and unload on flat gound. I would also put tubing across the top, both to support a tarp and to keep that one wooly critter from jumping out:)
