- the old generators lose the magnetic field, you need to re-polarize them on occasion if they sit for long periods, just loosen fan belt and jumper the correct terminal to the battery, it will run like a motor and be a whole new system.
that's actually a motor test.. however a motor test will polarize a genny.
no need to slip the belt off to just polarize them.
