Yeah, I feel the hurt. The threads on the drivers side seat of my '73 Impala have started to fray, you know, where your wallet always seems to rub up against it? Why couldn't they have used nylon instead of rayon?

I must say, they sure knew how to make air cleaners back in those days. Mines got 35,000 miles on it and its as clean as when it was new. And a decent trunk you could camp in or bring plywood home in. No danged plastic manifold on this girl. And real tires, not baloney skins. Never even needed the spare. And an AM radio too ! Bet your Ford ain't got one of them babies. Just wish I had ordered the 8-track....

Changed the ATF to Amsoil and removed the check valve at around 15,000.

I ran Amsoil ATF in my 700r on the chevy and never had another problem with trans.for over 100k..It had stuck the 2nd gear piston accumulator at 90k, so I dropped the GM dextron. I plan on lowering the pan on my Toyota and using their special ATF, as I have almost 75k and it is electric shift..

Going by this logic, my friend's 2001 Dodge must be a bigger piece of crap than your F-150. Her truck is a DD and pulls a trailer about twice a year, has over 100k on it. The infamous lift pump took out the injector pump to the tune of about 3k, so I guess that makes her truck about 3 times as crappy as yours.
Especially since Dodge has known about this problem for years and hasn't done anything to fix the issue.
Every brand has issues and the only way to guarantee not to have problems with a vehicle is not to buy one in the first place and ride the bus.

I know brand bashing isn't allowed here so I hope this doesn't fall under that category, but just had to rant here.

My 2000 F150 with the 5.4L triton motor started leaking antifreeze Sunday. Looked like it was coming from the top front right-hand side (as if sitting in the truck) of the motor. There's a return line from the heater core in that area, so I just thought it would be a leaking hose. Got it in the shop yesterday morning only to get a call and learn that the fluid was actually leaking from the cracked PLASTIC intake manifold, which had to be replaced!!!! What the crap is this??? A frigging intake manifold made entirely of plastic????? You gotta be kidding me?  I had no idea!

So yeah, a plastic lip that holds an O ring in place underneath a fitting where the heater core line returns had broken. This allowed part of the O ring to shift over and pretty much destroy the seal that the O ring was making, and it was spewing fluid all over that side of the top of the engine. So, after a new intake manifold, and about $700 later, it's all back together and running again.

And just about 2 yrs ago I had a plug that was seized up and broke off when I tried to back it out to replace the plugs. This wound up costing about $500 after the same garage had to get out the rest of the plug, and use a small bore camera to go inside the chamber and make sure they got all the bits and pieces out of the chamber, before putting a new plug back in. Btw, those plugs are a pain to get to, they are directly under the fuel rails to start with, which pretty much have to be moved over to get the coil packs off first. To make matters worse, they sit down in a narrow well about 5 inches deep, with the individual coil packs sitting right on top of the plugs. Another poor design feature that allows condensation to collect in the bottom of the well, which helps things corrode and seize up. To compound it, the plugs are about as skinny as your pinky, so there isn't much metal there to give them a lot of strength.

So, this will be my first, last, and ONLY Triton v8 that I will ever own. Have been a Ford truck guy for a long time, but next truck purchase just might be another brand.

unfortunately, plastic intake plenums are on everything these days.. I think ford had issues with these on their little v-6 pickup engines as well. Consider yourself lucky as the v-6 engines would leak to the inside of the back cylinder and when you went to fire it up, it would hydro that cylinder and usually break the little connecting rod!. Three different guys ar work had this happen...
The sparkplugs have been pretty well documented.. Not sure why ford has never fixed this issue, unless it would take too much of a re-design. Many engine manufacturers use the recessed sparkplug well design without issue. My sons 5.7L Hemi uses the dual-plug recessed sesign and with 130K on it, we changed the plugs for the first time and had no issues. I DID apply anti-seize on the new plugs though, just in case!!!.
I get aggrevated with my 3rd gen. Dodge Ram 2500 sometimes.... it seems that components that every vehicle has had for 50 years trouble free are now suddenly issues... HVAC, steering/suspension components, CD player that won't eject!!!.. They say the 4th Gen Rams are better, but i'm so pissed about the incomplete engineering of the one I currently have, I would never buy another one...
I have resorted to going to the aftermarket to fix any issues that arise. Many times, the common problems on popular vehicles have been addressed by aftermarket parts and companies...

From engines to body parts today's vehicles have lots of plastic and composite materials. The post that said ALL the manufacturers have their problems. You got that right.

Not "dumb" just useless. It's useless trying to complain about any "one" vehicle of manufacturer when they all have issues.

Wanna talk about GM's Overheating - I do since I spent 50K to buy a Duracrap that over heated from MILE ONE - DAY ONE. Not 12 years later.

Wanna talk about Toyota and their brake issues, or surging.

How about Dodge any their transmissions.

OK now for Honda and their lawsuits for mileage.

How about back to GM and their exploding VOLT cars hmm they're only a year old NOT TWELVE YEARS OLD.

Jeep Diesels and their problems. How about the roll over issues?

BMWs are dream cars for many. Most people lease them for a few years and trade them in for newer models. People then purchase them used, and this is where the problems begin.

Even if they are certified, these automatics should be avoided at all costs蓉nless you have several thousand dollars to repair the gear box. Customers say that the transmission hesitates or won't go into reverse at all.

GM Vehicles

There is a problem with many 1999 and older GM vehicles, all related to the type of antifreeze that the manufacturer used in the vehicle and recommended to dealers. This particular coolant, called Dex-Cool, virtually rots the radiator from the inside out. This includes the hoses, the gaskets, and a whole host of other parts that will need replacing, and with no help from General Motors Company.

Newer GM vehicles don't have this problem. In fact, newer cars (except for some Chevrolets) seem to have very few problems.

The Oldsmobile Bravada has been known to have several serious problems, namely with the heating and cooling systems. If you live in a temperate climate, this isn't a big deal. If you live in Florida (where it's hot) or Michigan (where it's freezing), you might have a problem, which can be extremely costly to fix. Steer clear of this used car, if you can.

The 2005 Saturn Relay has a laundry list of problems. They include sensor problems, such as the check engine light sensor. There are also reports of problems with the doors not closing properly.

Weather seals have been reported as not being very sturdy, and that they fall off. There are problems with the transmission. If you do a search for ratings on this minivan, you will find that most people who bothered to rate the vehicle had serious problems with it. Don't let it happen to you. Saturn makes great cars. This is just not one of them.

Volkswagen New Beetle

Sure, it's cute, but it has a lot of problems. Once the warranty runs out, you are out of luck. What are the problems with the New Beetle? It would be easier to ask what isn't a problem!

Problems with the power windows, the car's electrical system, the catalytic converter. All in all, the car is just known for being a money-sucker. Steer clear of this used car past its second or third year, just to be on the safe side.
