L4850 with LA950a loader - does not go very high
Hello all,
I haven't been on this forum in some time, but I have a concern and I am hoping someone here can help...
I have a L4850 with a LA950a loader. Its been a great machine for around the farm, however I have always felt that the loader does not lift very high. In fact I have trouble dumping into a standard dump trailer (about 5' high). I assumed this was just inherent in the design, but I just ran across a pic of a L3850 on craigslist (eastern CT), with what I think is the same loader, and its lifted much higher than mine goes....!
I have measured my cylinders and they appear to extend all the way... I will post some pics of mine all the way up and down. In the mean time does anyone have any ideas? Is this somehow adjustable? (angle maybe)
thanks,
Clint

If your cylinders are all the way out, that's probably all she has

Clint - I'm attaching a pic of the L4150 with BF950 loader (almost identical to LA950) When it's all the way up, the curl cylinders should be sloping up to the bucket. The bucket should go up over 9' - I'll see if I still have a spec sheet.
If yours stops early, the boom cylinders are maybe shorter? Could they have been swapped by a prior owner?? I don't remember the pin points being adjustable.
Second pic is an LA1150- they all normally extend pretty high.Last edited by rbargeron; 11-19-2012 at 03:39 PM. Reason: added another pic
L5450, L48, L3250, L345, never enough attachments

Is it possible that when your loader was assembled the boom cylinders were swapped with the bucket cylinders? It looks like yours boom cylinders are shorter than the bucket cylinders and I should be the opposite. Just a thought.

Boy to me it looks like the cyls. are not going all the way out by about 6" and might only need 4". If they are , they are the wrong cyls.

Look at your pic. side view and then look at the pic off of craigslist that has 950 on it. The uprights are a little different, but look at the plate where the cyl hooks to the boom. Don't believe you have a 950 loader on your tractor. The cyls do look like they are all the way out in the new pic. Look at the ser.# plate.

Also yours has 2 cross tube his has 1, and your stop shoes are not the same. Hold 2 stright edge along the boom and look at where the two meet then look at the anchor pins. looks to be about 4 or 5" differents.
