Hey Jesse -

Nice new ride!
I've been debating for the last several months regarding keeping & bulletproofing my 06 F350 dually, or sell it and possibly get one of these. I've got 92K on mine, never had any problems and towed some heavy loads. A bit concerned about the 4:30 gearing, kicks up the towing capacity but hurts the mpg.
I've seen some other threads on here where guys are recently paying good money for used 3/4 and 1 ton trucks....guess I need to look at a depreciation matrix and make a decision.
Q; when did the second generation come out....2013?
And, rough estimates on mpg?

thanks!

Frank

The second generation came out with the '15 models. Improved fuel system and several improvements to the engine for durability and reliability. I have less than 200 miles on the truck but the computer has shown a high of 17 mpg at 55 mph to about 15 mpg at 75. It's a long way from breaking in. So far I'm very impressed with the ride and quietness of the truck. About 2000 rpm's at 55mph, this is my third F-450 pickup with the 4.30's, really not a bad axle ratio for this truck.

So does that require a Class B Non-cdl in your state? Im fairly shure it would in mine (IL) (if not farm tags)

class V 2.5" rear factory hitch or just a class IV 2" version?

19.5" "commercial" tires or something else?

The old 450's could have a 5.13 rear gear. Hauled a 8,000 lb counter weight and had to refill once a day.

Not sure about the commercial license requirement. I already have a Class A commercial license so I'm covered there. The truck is rated for 40,000# GCWR so if you plan on hauling that heavy you probably need one.
The rear hitch is a Class V, rated for 19,000# weight distributing and 12,500# non-weight distributing.
The tires are commercial 19.5" load range G.

We bought a new '88 F-SuperDuty ( they didn't have the F-450 name then). It had the 7.3 non-turbo diesel and 5 speed trans. Only rear ratio for the diesel was a 5.13, if you got the 460 gas engine you got a 4.88. That 7.3 diesel needed all the help it could get, good engine but only made about 175 hp. These were good, heavy trucks, had the straight front axle like a medium duty truck.

Sharp looking truck, I really like the two tone combination. Have you loaded it down yet and gave it a good towing test?

Nice looking truck. I may have to look at a Ford since GM did away with their line of medium duty trucks.

40,000# GCWR, 14,000# GVWR.

Not in Texas just to drive the truck. Class B or Class B CDL is only required for a GVWR of 26,001# or greater. Put a non-farm trailer behind it over 12,000# GVWR and it would require a Class A CDL. He has a Class A CDL so he is covered.

You can tow a farm trailer behind it up to 20,000# with just a Class C. A 20,000# trailer being towed behind this truck would only be 34,000# GCWR, still within the vehicle rating and the law. You see this on the road a lot with a trailer loaded with hay or a large tractor, especially a TLB.

TxDPS - Classes of Driver Licenses

Class C

Authorizes an individual to drive any single vehicle:
1.Or combination of vehicles that are not included in Class A or Class B
2.With a GVWR of less than 26,001 pounds towing a farm trailer with a GVWR that does not exceed 20,000 pounds
3.Designed to transport 23 or less passengers including the driver; vehicles rated as 16-23 passengers including the driver require a Class C CDL unless exempt

Really nice rig!

Thanks Jesse.
The mpg is nearly the same as mine, figure 9 years of advanced technology, mine has the 4:10. 62@2000 rpm.
I like the built in class V, I had to install my own. Does it have the double box opening?
And, ever had the azz of the truck below level? I added an extra spring in the springpack, and added firestone airbags, and have always been at least level or a bit higher in the back.
Ohh dam I'm starting to feel more interested.....$$$$ lol
