I agree with what the manual says, but my center gearbox has the fill hole on top plus 2 check level holes on the back.
Not the first time the manual does not explain everything! My understanding is that gearboxes should never be overfilled.
Since the drive shaft and transverse shafts are on the same plane and distance from the cutter housing, the levels
in the spindle boxes and the center box should be the same. This lines up exactly with the lower "check level" plug
so I'm going to use that as my level. That will mean that the lower half of the planetary gears will be submerged in
oil, and will transfer it upwards as the gears rotate. It I use the upper "check level" plug, the the entire gear system
will be submerged and the oil might foam during use and blow out the seal. I believe that would be the worst case
scenario.

Some oil sumps have 2 check levels, and oil above the bottom one, and below the top one is good.

My farmall C oil pan has checkcocks on it like that
