Re: I\'m just a little boy
I usually stay in the BIG tractor forums, but I have to get in on this too.
None of my tractors are capable of mowing the lawn, the 4010 JD would, maybe with a rear mount, the 4030 JD is too big and my new 5030 has a cab and low tree limbs would be detrimental to the tractors looks.
I used to run a rear mount behind my 3710 Kubby until I broke the lid of the septic tank with the drives and my wife had to pull me out with the pickup (STINK-STINK). I had to make a new lid which I did from a piece of 3/8 " diamond plate.
Needless to say, I needed a riding lawnmower or as the ad's say, a riding lawn tractor .
I didn't want to spend an arm and leg for a JD or a Wheel Horse or Simplicity, so I went to the Local TSC (Tough S*** Charlie's) and bought a Huskee with a 48" deck and a Briggs 23 horse V twin vertical motor. This little gem even has a 2 barrell carb. Today it dosen't matter what the brand is, for the most part with the exception of the high end mowers, they are all made by MTD. My Huskee was $1500.00 full of gas and oil and I got 6 months same as cash on my TSC card.
In olden days, big power on a "lawn tractor" was 12-15 ponies. This Huskee has 23. It does a nice job (I cut about 3.5 acres) and use about 3 gallons of gas each time. I got really daring a few weeks ago and mowed down the tall weeds in one horse paddock. The Huskee did it fine even though the weeds were taller than the tractor.
I could put the Huskee in the bucket of the 5030, and to clean the deck which I do often, I put a chain around the front bumper on the Huskee and lift it up in the air with the 5030. Makes cleaning the deck easy.
What really sold me was not only the price (which was a consideration) but the fact that the local elevator has on that they have had for about 7 years and other than belts, blades and oil changes, they have had NO problems.
