Kiwi building a Scandinavian house

I have never seen the piles driven in with a hand held, most I have seen are hydraulic on an excavator and very quick although I often wonder what would happen if one snapped off like my coachbolts in timber.

Ready for the next inspection now but civil defence are warning of an approaching storm it's likely the river will rise and my valley will be isolated I am hoping the inspector will get here before the access closes so once the storm passes I can carry on

Are you doing all the work alone?
Looks great and so is the progress.

The rules here are that you either need to be a licensed building practitioner (i am not) or apply for an exception which require signing an affidavit that
A that the house is for your own use or immediate family
B that you have not used this exception for any other house in the last five years
and the kicker you will build the house yourself with no paid help. Family and friends etc can help but must not be paid.
So I can bring in specialists who have a ticket for foundation screws, roofing plumbing, electrical.
But the main build I am doing with the odd bit of help from neighbours that owe me a favour

Wow, well good on you! That is an undertaking, and then some.

It is great that boron treatment is required. I wish it was available here to slow down termites. My grandparents had a house by the beach that had had the lumber floated to it. The wood ended up saturated in salt, which was a little hard on things like electrical outlet boxes, but termite resistant (no damage in seventy years).

All the best,

Peter

Every single part labeled with code that you can work out the wall the position along the wall and how high up the wall but when parts were LSOP treated (light solvent organic preservative) the solvent basically jet fuel dissolved the glue on the labels and they have all fallen off luckily they have written the code in pen as well most of the time they even got it right some are open to interpretation some I just guess

The solvent incompatibility seems like an obvious oversight/error on the manufacturer's part. I would have thought that bar code laser etched on a hidden side would have been a more useful method.

Great to see the build, and progress!

All the best, Peter
