Hi guys. looking at a 2005 Kubota L39 TLB with GTS. Haven't seen it in person yet but it has 4K hrs. Seller says he has records and manuals. He wants 18K for it. What do you all think of the price assuming average wear and tear and cosmetics. Do you think I would be way off base if I offered 16K when I go see it provided it's in average or better shape. The backhoe is the important part of the deal as I've found I could really use one for maintaining my 3/4 mile driveway. Thanks for any input.

The L39 is a real nice unit. Very strong for its size. Maintnce is key, if there are records and history..all the better. Many of those tractors were rental units..there is 2 schools of thought on that ..one is that every yahoo rents it and beats the bag out of it.. and people steer clear of buying it later..and the 2nd school is that it's rented and fleet maintained with a open checkbook..thus a good machine 2nd hand.. look for the 3pt hitch. ..if it's not with the tractor..it's 1k or more to buy.. obviously look for the basics, tire condition, ..oil leaks, hydrolic line condition, pin wear and evidence of frequent lubrication, oil condition, .. etc. I have a 6400 hr 1 owner mini x that I bought used.. had a maintenance book 6" thick.. I think runs like a top and the only thing I have had to do is get a new battery.. the old one was 7 years old...

I'm very happy with mine. I paid 16000 for it 2 years ago with 2200 hrs. Dug 600+ stumps my first summer with it. Spreading 60 yds of gravel for my driveway this week. Very handy size. I got a 72" boxblade with mine, but I have yet to remove the backhoe & try it. 20190425_134529 (1).jpg

Thanks for the input. Sounds like a offer of 16K would not be outlandish.

I'd be on my 3rd or 4th regular fam tractor by now.

Figure a CUT or compact TBL will be completely worn out by 10,000 hours probably with a few major repairs & lots of minor repairs. Abuse, maintnance & luck can shift those numbers around a fair bit, but it's a good starting point. An industrial TBL is a stronger machine than a CUT, but tends to get worked harder.

$16k for a good small TBL that's maybe around half used up isnt bad. Getting a new hoe mounted on the back of my L4060 would be half the price of the whole machine you are looking at. I expect the TBL would be beefier on the hoe & loader than mine as well.

4000 is a lot of hours. I’d be kinda concerned. As long as the boom is tight and the transmission seems to work good maybe it would be alright. I think it’s best years are behind it. Also as mentioned a lot of these TLB machines are missing the 3 point arms.

I think 10000 hours is overly optimistic. I hardly ever see full size TLBs go that high and I’ve never seen a compact tlb go that high.

Quite probable. But as I said lots of minor repairs & some major repairs to make that mark. And you are dealing with averages. Some won't make 4k hours, some will break 15k easily.

I certainly wouldn’t base my financial decisions on a 10,000 hour lifespans. If it does then that’s a bonus.
