Just got a quote for a M5140 Sychro-Shuttle, R4's, QA 1153 Loader, 3rd Function loader valve, filled rear tires and delivery for $29,200 cash. Working on getting a comparable quote for the MX5100. I am thinking it should come in around $26,000 for the same configuration with the exception of HST instead of the gear trans. Looking at the specs and driving both tractors, I think the M5140 is definitely $3K more tractor.

What do you all think of the $29,200 quote for that configuration. It works out to about 15% off MSRP including the Kubota $1,000 cash back incentive.

I appreciate your input!

Thanks,

I have an L4300, whish is close enough to an L4600. I also have an MX5100 and I'll say my MX5100 outclasses the L4300 is a few big ways. It has a beefier front axle that holds it down and makes it much easier to handle a heavier rear implement. It has more power and while it's only a few more HP, the extra cubic inches and turbo give it a real power advantage. I dare say the MX5100 is the best small tractor I ever owned and I am really fussy.
I don't know the M5140 but I suspect it's the same engine as the MX5100 and close enough to handle about the same. I'm not sure what is best for you but I know it's either the MX5100 or M5140 and not the L4600. And I prefer gear drive as well. It works great with the MX5100 and also has a shuttle you can F-R use.Get over the gearshift issue since it hardly is noticable. Just my two cents.

Having traded in a synchro-shuttle in on a hydraulic-shuttle and driven both for a few years, get a hydro-shuttle on the M5140 if you can. It is far easier to use than one can imagine. Nothing wrong with a synchro-shuttle mind you, my brother just bought one, but for me it was a great improvement.

Decision just got tougher, quote on MX5100 came in at $24,500 so I am looking at $5k more for the M5140. I really like the 5140, but $5k difference is more than I anticipated. Any thoughts, opinions, guidance on the 5140 worth the extra $5k?

$5K more for a 5140 doesn't seem worth it to me.

I went back and read your list of uses and I just can't see spending the extra money for something it appears a much more economical and well equipped tractor will do. $5000 will buy some really nice implements.

20ac. It would be between the MX5100 hst 4x4,or the GrandL 5240/5740,probaly the GrandL. I just got rid of my M5040 is was a tough tractor but just for mowing alittle here and there and the driveway and such I think would like the small frame tractors over the M series unless doing hay or something. The 5 grand could get you a new mower, box blade, landscape rake, etc. Same HP,do you need a bigger, heavier, tractor?
