I doubt that your oil had anything to do with it running rough, it did turn over and start didn't it?

Barely. I ran 10W-30 one year and it started fine in the winter. I ran 15W-40 and it started poorly and rough if at all. A new battery didn't help (summer did).

Is 5W-40 sufficient for a BX-2200 to run all year? I really am not well versed in what these numbers mean.

Thanks,

I ran their 15w-40 HDD&M all year last year. Started fine down to -9 to -10..I have there series 3000 and trying then test.

5W-40 means it's the viscosity of 5 weight oil at winter temperature, I forget what temperature that is, somewhere between 0 deg. and 32 deg. F as I recall. The viscosity would then be the same as straight 40 weight at the engine's operating temperature.

I'd have no problem using that, but I'll probably use Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 for diesels, it's good oil and I alreaqdy use it in my '04 F-350 diesel.

The first number in the xxWxx series is the viscosity range at 40 C (104 F). The second number is the viscosity range at 100 C (212 F).

Mobil 1 ! Does Kubota label their own oil like JD? I use either Delvac 1 or truck n SUV just because I have it in the shop for my trucks and its proven itself to me over and over on my oil analysis.

Looking at both your mobil oils, they look ok in ZDDP but CA looks a little low for me, below 3000 ppm.

Also Delvac1 or SUV s low in VI (151), has 1.35 wt% ash (too much for me). I do not know what HTHS or Noack is so I would have to look it up. I think it was around 4.0 HTHS and Noack are in the 6-10% range for there oils. I would personally not buy an oil over 7 but again that is me.

Both good oils and I would pay about $12 +/- 1 per gallon and no more.

Mike, Here are my last numbers from an oil analysis after 15k. I only was running a stock AC filter at the time but swapping it out every 15k. This was between 10k-25k on my truck some of the heavy metal numbers are very slightly elevated. I'm at 60k now and I switched back to 10k oil change intervals useing M1303 filters on my Duramax. I completely agree with you on the ash. That number would send me in a tail spin.

Back to the original subject, this is not an oil issue, sounds like fuel related, maybe fuel filter or needs to add fuel conditioner.

I agree, based on the numbers, it sounds fuel related. The oil is good down to -58 F.
