The blue loader hides a lot of the tractor.

Looks like an alternator

Alternators are easy to check if they are charging or not. High tech use a volt meter on the battery. Anything above 13.2 volts is charging. Should be around 13.8 minimum -14.5 volts after running for a bit. Low tech touch the rear bearing with a screw driver or similar while the tractor is running. If it's magnetized the alternator is charging.

Ok will do that.

I could also store it in the garage but frankly I think the rodents might get in there also as its not super "tight".

If not charging, check out wording and external reg.

Wasn't able to feel any magnetic pull while the tractor was turned on via the rear bearing but I maybe screwing that up. The guy I bought it from said he had the alternator tested fine a few times. However, rather than take his word I will get a volt meter and see how it tests, I don't have at the moment.

Since the battery charges on his battery charger, does that eliminate it being a battery issue?

If it can be charged on a charger, start and run all day, then yeah, bat is at least satisfactory for now.

Charge voltage test will likely show no increase over nominal 12.6
